“Just to start, anything above a 2 star is a place I'd visit. This is a nice little spot, with easy access to the river down a fairly steep inclined path. Only 2 trails, but it has 2 picnic tables with a shelter over them, which was rather unexpected for such a small place. There is a landing down at the river, and plenty of mountain Laurel that I hear is quite beautiful to see around Mother's Day. I only give it 4 stars because there's not much to do, but I'd definitely recommend visiting.”

“Been going here for years and have watched the amenities improve and expand. Covered picnic tables, playground. You can now rent paddle boats and the addition of another dock for access to the walking trails is nice. They even have fishing platforms with benches along the lake edge for the fisherman or nature photographers. Easy access. Free.”

“This is a great park and we always enjoy our experience when playing here. My son plays travel baseball and we have played here several times. The set up where the playground is in the center of the park where you have a view of every field is perfect. I can let my toddler play with other children while I watch my son play ball. The concession stand is very nice. It's big with a covered shelter and plenty of eating space. Great menu choices with very reasonable prices. The field crew takes excellent care of the fields. Always a pleasant experience here at Butner Athletic Park.”

“The trail was a nice walk. There were nice ups and downs to get your heart going a little. The beginning of the blue trail was a bit snug through new growth pine trees but quickly opened up into an open forest. Very reminiscent of Umstead. You get a nice view of the creek along the trail.”
