Went with a friend to challenge the penalties on her property tax. Having bought the house in mid July the taxes were sent to the seller, then again Jordan Tax service claimed to send a reminder in October... but unfortunately that too went under the wrong name and my friend never received notice. The magistrate was very fair, and visibly uncomfortable with the unethical practice of adding 600 to the first notice that they sent to the correct owner, but said his hands were tied. In the end, I think we residents of these townships need to demand that ethical collectors are used. When she received the notice she paid immediately in full.... not every individual is capable of doing that and it concerns me what added fees would they incur? The magistrate cannot undo bad policy, but he was fair and asked good questions of their lawyer (that's right, they pay a lawyer to defend collecting 600 for correcting the name the send it too-call that research!) I think as a resident it is time I question the township on their use of Jordan Tax Services.
