Had a wonderful time hiking to the top. Love the picnic area also. Beautiful views everywhere.
Very impressive monument. I was hiking the half king trail with some friends, and we figured we'd visit the big cross too. I'd recommend the hike, the trail was well groomed.
The cross is Great! You have to walk a long ways up hill to see it and it is on private property. There was a gate across the road so we didn't go all the way up the hill. But it is very impressive and there is a beautiful view overlooking a city, I'm just not sure which city. There is parking available and no cost. It is also close to a battlefield which we didn't have time to check out, but it's something to make note of when visiting the area.
Grew up going to summer Church Camp, every third week nine July, 1966, at age 9, until 1972 at age 16! Wonderful place to find fellowship, congregate with kids my own age, swimming, hiking, nature trails, Bible study, worship, great food deserts, and my favorite, sleeping under the Cross, at least once during out week there! 🙏🏻 The last picture was where we were dropped off near the swimming pool, a week later, picked up by our parents and headed Home!
The Great Cross of Christ is such a pleasant and peaceful experience. There is a a bit of a hike up to the cross however there are benches along the way to rest. It’s worth the walk and there is a great view along the way. When you arrive to the top, it’s all worth it. The view is amazing whether it’s a clear day or not. There are benches there at the Cross to sit and reflect, pray, and enjoy a view of God’s creation.
I used to go as youth with my church and I was able to take that walk with my children and husband recently. So many great memories.
