A fantastic historical place to visit. The rock formation and the archaeological rick formation are a must see The steps to the geological rocks site are a lot, but manageable.
A great choice if you’re in the Pittsburgh area and looking for something interesting to check out. There are two basic “areas” to explore. The larger area behind the visitor’s center is split between three different example settlements from the 16th, 18th and 19th centuries as well as a museum with a lot of interesting historical vehicles and farm machinery. The second area is the rock shelter. Both were excellent and really interesting, and the guides were so nice and great at answering questions. In particular, Melanie, who was our guide at the rock shelter, did a fantastic job. You could tell that she is very passionate about archaeology and that she really likes what she does.
Very interesting place. Not large, but enough for our day trip. We enjoyed the villages, information and interactive activities. Nice walk through some small museums. Great staff!
Everyone we encountered was extremely knowledgeable and exceedingly kind. My kids enjoyed the schoolhouse best. They loved sitting in the desks and listening to the ways of school in the 1800’s. This place is the perfect mix of hands-on and history!!
