The Pat O’Rourke Memorial Hike/Bike Trail is a decent, urban trail for getting a workout in should you find yourself in the area. The trail itself is approximately two miles long, and follows North Resler Drive from its intersection with Helen of Troy Drive until its intersection with the Loop 375 Frontage Road. At the trail’s intersection with the Loop 375 Frontage Road, the trail also intersects with the Elizabeth F. Hernandez Memorial Hike and Bike Trail which follows the frontage road all the way up and into the Franklin Mountains State Park. In order to take the trail all the way up to the state park, you must first cross the Woodrow Bean Transmountain Dr. underpass and then head east. If you just want to add approximately two additional miles onto your route, then you can simply take the trail east without crossing the underpass.
Regarding the trail itself, the first mile of the trail is relatively urbanized but becomes less so the further along you go. One should expect the trail to exclusively incline until the turn-a-round point, and then exclusively decline. The trail is only lightly shaded, and users should therefore expect to bring sunscreen, headwear, and plenty of water. Parking is available alongside the road at the start of the trail, at various points along the trail, and at the community parking lot provided by the Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus.
Regarding the trail’s amenities, there are dog waste bins, which are regularly stocked with free waste bags, placed at multiple points along the trail, as well as a free dog water fountain in front of the TFCU bank at round the ½ mile point. The Elizabeth F. Hernandez Memorial Hike and Bike trail does not have these amenities.
Shared Pathway is a bit dirty and pavement needs improvement but the idea is there. At least the city is trying 🤷♀️🤷♂️🤷👍
Great scenery. Great bike ride today. Awesome !
Nice Walk in the Early Morning.
