Can't wait to book the Lodge again. Very peaceful setting. We loved watching the many animals walk by in the evening from the 2nd floor deck. Minutes away from Glen Rose Square for dining and shopping.
Love it! We stayed at the lounge so we could do the morning safari tour. The suite was not as luxury as expected for the price but beautiful views specially in the morning & evening. Friendly staff, & convenient parking. Definitely coming back!
Our one-night stay here was fantastic. Even though we had no wifi - it was down for the whole facility - we had a great time. We stayed in the Parrot Room which has the most AMAZING jacuzzi bath I've ever experienced. My husband and I made an error and poured too much bubble bath it, creating a family comedy-worthy situation. It was so fun.
We really enjoyed our stay here! I grew up going to Fossil Rim as a kid and always wanted to stay on property but we couldn't afford it. So for my birthday this year, we spent the money and it was wonderful!
A few things:
We stayed in the Egret room. This room does not have its own bathroom. The bathroom is shared with the Hummingbird room. Each room gets one half of the drawers and counter space. And its down the hall so you must leave your room to walk to the bathroom. Its not a big deal, was just a surprise.
There are stairs up to the communal area/kitchen and they are STEEP, spiral stairs. Anyone with mobility problems would not be able to navigate them. And we had to keep an eye on our toddler at all times.
Its not super kid friendly. I didnt expect it to be kid-proof but the stairs and the large amount of breakable things were a little different. All the other people staying that weekend had kids and nothing was broken, so its not a deal breaker, you just need to be prepared to watch your kids constantly.
Its not quiet. We all had trouble getting to sleep because the walls were like paper and every move someone made was heard. Especially since we were on the lowest level, we could hear people walking above us.
Aside from that, its GORGEOUS! And its a kind of peaceful I've never felt anywhere else. The staff is kind and helpful and breakfast was decent. The kitchen is a full kitchen so feel free to bring whatever you want to make food - its stocked with plates, cookware, cups, etc. The only thing is that the oven does not work.
Be sure to book a sunrise tour! You wont regret it!!! The early morning tour gets your right out behind the feed truck and you'll see all kinds of animals that cant be seen otherwise. Absolutely the best part of the only experience - and its only available to those who stay at the lodge. The pick you right up from breakfast!
Have stayed In both the parrot and the peregrine rooms here. Both were nice rooms with large tubs. The parrot's tub could be called huge actually. Both rooms have parking for one car each right near them. The peregrine is on a floor by itself which is neat. We have stayed here a few times and it has always been nice. The breakfast has been nice each time just make sure to let them know about food allergies. The first time we went it was a buffet so we thought nothing about it, and the second time they just made us plates for breakfast because there was only a small group of people. The plates had eggs on them and my wife is allergic our fault just a heads up. I cannot recommend the tours enough the behind the scenes one is quite nice because you get to see things that you do not normally get to.
My warning for the peregrine would have to be that if you have issues with tight stair cases it is not for you. The vents for the AC in the peregrine room rattle as well. Then my in general warning is that it is an older house so there some noise issues. If someone turns on a vent fan they make quite a bit of noise. We sleep with a fan so it didn't bother us, but I could see how it might annoy someone else.
