My hike covered parts of miles 1 and 2 of the 14 mile, Mount Vernon Trail, within the George Washington Memorial Parkway. If you're starting at Mount Vernon, the mile one trail runs into Riverside Park. Continue on pass mile two marker, you will observe signs for larger, Fort Hunt Park. Observe nature, Potomac River, picnic areas, and restrooms on site. Parking at various points along the trail, for site seeing, or other activities.
One of the best trails around
Hard to get to by car because the entrance looks like apartments, but its that area. You can go to the park below the bridge or the trail along the bridge on top! Sadly I got rained out of crossing the bridge but I will try again another time :)
If you love riding a bike you can’t miss renting a bike in DC for this trail in the morning and eventually have lunch in Mt Vernon. Refreshing adventure. The trail is safe and requires minimal preparation (meaning you must be able to ride 20 miles on a bike).
This is one of my favorite places to spend time outdoors in the area. The path is always well-kept and spans for miles. Most people that use the path are considerate and know the rules and etiquette. The most criticism I have about the path is the congestion during nice days. It can get crowded and dangerous if you are not paying attention.
