“Lake Mercer is a well kept secret. Its trails connect to Burke Lake to the west and to Pohick Road to the east.”

“Personally, I liked it better when there was some grass. The grey gravelly stuff gets between the toes of the paws and my dog loves to tumble and roll so she doesn't come home any cleaner. I guess it's better than mud/dust but I'd think most dogs would rather run in the grass.”

“The Bull Run Occoquan Trail is a gorgeous 17-mile multi-use trail that is well-maintained by the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. Parts of the trail are available for horseback riding and mountain biking, and all parts are open dawn to dusk for hiking. The Fountainhead Regional Park provides easy parking and access to the eastern trailhead.”

“Lovely park to take a nice long peaceful walk at. My mom and I use to walk around the whole lake for our daily exercise. This park is one of few where you can go out for a walk worry free and not feel like someone’s following you, it doesn’t have that “dangerous feeling” to it. It’s very open and theirs always people walking, running or riding their bikes.”

“Great addition to the trail infrastructure. This Trail allows you to safely travel from Burke Road East of the suicide curve up to Burke Lake Road through a beautiful wooded area. The bath as well paved and very enjoyable to walk or ride a bike on.”

“Great park for kids, but not super toddler friendly. Loved the trails- shaded but with some open areas.”

“A very nice campground right next to Burke lake with a great trail goes all the way around the lake. The camp store has few items aside from the essential, but what it does have is at a reasonable price. The staff is friendly and helpful. All around a great campsite”

“Review for the summertime when the train is running. This is an awesome outdoor train ride. The real deal in terms of a steam engine. The driver really hits the gas, the kids love the tunnel, the ride is generously long, and the station is really tastefully put together. Couldn't get my kid off it, and for something like $3 a ride, I was happy to oblige.”

“This park has plenty of parking spaces in front of the major picnic areas. The shelters are a great place for parties since they are surrounded by tons of shade. Always carry bug spray and enjoy the other activities.”

“Laughing that someone named this playground. This courts, jungle gym, basketball court, field. The whole family can entertain themselves here. I grew up in a house bordering this park, and we spent entire summer days, into the night, playing and communing "at the park." For over 25 years it's hosted a 35+ basketball game every Sunday morning. Even though I'm now old enough to play, I haven't yet.”

“Paved most of the way, train tracks running along a portion of the path.. good for those who want a clearly defined walking space.. can see far ahead.. trails break off and take you to apartment complexes.. nice healthy alternative to the VRE.. love the stepping stones and due to all the rain activity the creek is bubbling with excitement.. the birds are in full song and the frogs are adding their chorus as well... partial shade and partial uncovered areas.. take sunscreen, water and bug spray..great for a easy leisurely stroll through nature.. surprised by all the nature being so close to roads and apartment complexes.. not my first choice but a great alternative for a quick bike ride, a run or an evening stroll..”

“Wonderful Park for any Athletic Team. Soccer Field, Basketball Courts, Tennis Courts and Football Field. One of the Best Athletic Parks I've seen. I will visit again.”

“Beautiful to walk on the top of the dam overlooking the lake. Walk or run the trail all the way from Lake Mercer to Burke Lake without crossing any traffic. Wooded trails include lots of wildlife, you'll frequently see deer, squirrels, owls, fox, frogs, and birds. Trail is well maintained overall - expect some steep hills along the way. A great way to get away from the bustle of the city and to enjoy time with the family.”
