Not one of the best state parks in the state, but certainly not the worst. The modern feel of the park is a very interesting and well executed take on the style of parks we know and love. The inclusion of both English and Native American history on the land is highly appreciated and a nice touch. The Timberneck House could use a little love and the trails are a bit lacking, but all in all a solid 9/10 park.
We went for the first day hike, what an amazing group of both staff and volunteers. They were awesome, we’ve been hiking at a lot of state parks and this one was by far the best. Just a beautiful location and well worth the trip.
Beautiful place to visit! Lots of parts of this park are handicap accessible. There are several parking areas and the main loop is paved. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, kids can get a junior ranger book to complete for a patch. Very kid friendly.
Our Camping experience was great. All new infrastructure. No road noise. Nice sites, great bathrooms. The dock has handicap access for launching (Really Cool!)
We had a good couple of nights sleep, and fun canoe trip (with our canoe)
What a delightful find! We stopped by as part of the Virginia State Park Trail Quest not knowing anything about the place. We were greeted by such a friendly ranger. There is a 3ish mile loop road that leads you to camping sites (one with cute yurts), a boat landing, and an interpretative trail. There's a paved path along the loop that was being enjoyed by walkers, runners, and dogs. We walked along the interpretive area and were wowed by the views of the water and the native Indian history. We also walked along the forest trail a bit. Would love to see more trails, especially with water views. Very new place, so it's clean and modern. The bottle fillers were welcomed!
