What a treasure for Rappahannock County and the broader community! Diane and John MacPherson have built one of the premier meal destinations in the region, and their joy in sharing with their guests is evident from the moment you're greeted and shown to your table.

The space features an excellent mix of warmth (from wood tones and soft lighting), substance (from the imposing post and beam construction overhead), and modern style (from the integrated kitchen and plating/assembly area on prominent display at the front of the room). They all take a back seat to the kitchen's tremendous skill and delicacy, where standards are high and delivery is informed by a quiet confidence throughout.

The menu from one week to the next is nominally published ahead of time, but what remains delightfully unknown are the details. If you take a wine pairing, you'll be met with an encyclopedic knowledge of both old and new world vintages. If you ask about the truffle being shaved at the table, you'll discover it's not Italian, but instead from much closer to home -- Virginia or North Carolina.

And it's all delivered with comfortable grace by your hosts and, on occasion, Ben or someone else from the kitchen. There are no dedicated servers here, and what you see is the bulk of the operation. Cold storage hides behind an automated door, but most of the prep and all of the final plating is done out in the open. Indeed, it's part of the show.

I was very fortunate to be taken the first time by a good friend before he left the area, and I've now become adept at stalking the reservation system looking for an opportunity to go back without the customary long lead time. It's absolutely worth the effort, and while I've only been twice in total, I look forward to all the visits to come.

Great food, interesting flavors, servings and wine pairings perfect size over many courses so you dont feel bloated, tipsy or hungry. Staff and owners are great hosts. Perfect setting for good conversation. Love the focus on local ingredients. Been there twice now.

This is certainly one of the best dining experiences you'll have in the D.C. region. My wife and I have been 3 times and have loved each meal. All 3 have been completely different, but equally amazing, especially considering the perfectly curated wine pairings. The owners are extremely pleasant and personable. They make ample time to converse with all patrons and personally serve most of the dishes. If you can get a reservation, you should definitely go.

Simply amazing and well worth the 200+ day reservation wait time. Had an incredible meal with fabulous wine pairings. Can't wait to go back!

This is a dining experience; "restaurant" makes it seem too commonplace. Spending an evening with John and Diane is a peaceful, warm, delicious experience that will make you rethink everything you've known previously about fine dining.
