Nice charming picnic area, plenty of parking spots, York River front water view, white sand beach and beautiful bridge across the River. Worth spending a day relaxing and enjoying fresh air.

Very surprised at how nice this beach is, especially for families and young children. It is clean, peaceful, quiet, and private, with good views. You can bring your own grill and barbeque food right on the beach. There needs to be more parking. The waves are rather small (1-2 feet) and safe for young children and adults, and there are multiple small concave inlets where the water is peaceful. The water has a safety net barrier about 50-200 feet offshore to prevent any rare big fish (such as whales, small sharks, etc) and larger jellyfish from getting close to the beach, yet there are piers and also rocks piled up out into the water in some areas to enable fishing beyond the safety nets to catch larger fish. There are vibrant green trees and large fields of grass right next to the beach, all for good picnics in the sunlight or in the shade of a tree, and the fields are also good for kicking a soccer ball around or even playing a soccer match or other field sports (these are not official fields for sports, but for relaxing, fun, and good times). When I went there on Sunday 7/3/22, there were several hundred people and dozens of families there, many with young children. There are picnic tables sporadically placed here and there. You won't find hot dog, soda, snowcone, or any vendor selling these things on this beach because the county does not allow such, which makes it more peaceful and pleasant, but you can bring your own food, drinks, and even grills, and pretty much anything else (chairs, TV, fan, beach umbrella, fishing gear and poles, etc) you want to bring (I took my laptop and mouse). Many people had radios and were playing nice music outloud, which added to the pleasantry of this beach. While there, I thought it would be great to bring some dumbbells and do a workout right on the beachfront, which is allowed. You can also set up tents and have large gatherings. At the north end of the beachfront, there are tables, restaurants, a stonewalk that would be rather romantic to walk on as part of a date, and fishing piers, and it's more commercialized, but none of such things are at the south end of the beach. The south end is just wonderfully all natural, has the fields, picnic tables, and trees descibed above, and is landscaped and cleaned well. As for people, when I was there about 40% of the people there were Latino/Hispanic, about 35% were white, about 10% were black, about 10% were asian, and about 5% were mixtures, and people of each race were from all over the world. As for history and local environment, the beach is located right next to and part of colonial/old town Yorktown, which the U.S. has significant history at. Others can post on such history, as I'm just posting on the beach for now. It's one of the coziest and nicest beaches. I can easily picture weddings occurring on the south end and north end of this beach. The local governing officials, including the Sheriff and County Board of Supervisors, are located just up the street and they have done exceptionally well in cultivating and preserving this beach as an awesome family friendly, safe, clean, and well maintained beach.

Beautiful view of the river. The picnic area was nice and parking was close. The grounds were well maintained and I didn't see any trash laying around. The bathrooms were very clean and close to the picnic area.

I was there Saturday April 17th. Sitting at a picnic table enjoying the view of the York River when I noticed a group of young Hispanic men getting ready to have a picnic. I felt they should have a table so I got up and told them they could have it. I went to my vehicle to sit and wait for my sons who were exploring the beach. A few minutes later one of the young gentlemen walked up and handed me my wallet that had slipped out of my pocket at the table. Sometimes its just little things that can make the world a much better place. Thanks for returning my wallet and I wish you a happy life!

Perfect for a family picnic or just to hang out waterside; evening visits during the summer months are ideal. Fishing is an option in some areas.
