Point Defiance is a beautiful park with so much to offer. Plenty of trails for walking, a beach with amenities, multiple picnic areas, large grassy areas, a pond, tennis courts, a rose garden, boat launch and bait shop, zoo and aquarium, bike paths/lanes, great views, an historic fort, off leash dog park, and much more. The park spans 760 acres, and is home to a variety of animals, plants and trees. A great place for young and old to explore. If you haven't been there you've been missing out on the crown jewel of Tacoma!
Always love this park, lots of beautiful changes. The normal entrance to Owen beach is closed to cars and is open only for walking & biking traffic. The entrance to Owen beach is just a few feet more, where the exit only was before is now both entrance and exit. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. Beach very clean. Hiking still as awesome as ever.
A wonderful place to dress up and take photos. Plenty to do, plenty to see. I would recommend this place to anyone, locals and visitors alike. Unlike many places in Tacoma, this place has an aura of cleanliness and refinement. Somewhere that you can take a picnic basket and dress well for a weekend out with the family like one would see almost 100 years ago. Check out the flower garden, ladies can get their rose and flower fix there while wondering about. There are nearly domesticated deer that wander about all over the park so keep a wary eye out for them. All this culminates to the beachfront area where you can relax in the sun with the water lapping at your feet. During low tide, you could walk along the shore and explore some of the caves and sea shelves that can be found along the coast. Lastly, the renovations they have made were very tasteful and make the whole experience that much better.
This place is always nice to go to. I will say I was taken back by the fact that you can't feed the ducks. I carry around bird food with me everywhere. I guess too many people were giving them bread. It's a really big area. Parking is limited. Always love looking at the flowers when we're here.
This is a fun park located at the peninsula in Tacoma! It has a fort, science & math museum, zoo & aquarium, a little Japanese garden and a beach!
The Japanese garden could’ve used some love and care; Owen beach is almost ready(it has been closed for renovations)! And such lovely woods to walk around and lose yourself in the green! I also loved that a huge part of the five mile drive is closed over the weekend to allow for foot traffic and bikes. The park has plenty parking spots!
If you’re in Tacoma, do check this park out!
