Shelter needs updating. It is still a spot that is cooler than the hot day. I enjoyed live music there and the acoustics are not bad.
Fabulous playgrounds, kids loved it. Pretty big park, lots of space to walk around. Could maybe benefit from soccer goals.
6/28/2022. Our 4 y/o great-grandson is learning soccer in Elvehjem Elementary's backfield through MSCR.
It's a nice field for soccer and the kids have a lot of fun. Today we say a fawn, casually walking across the field and the kids were mesmerized! I would post pics, but I took video and can't upload it, but it was magical!
7/1/2022 As we were watching the little ones play soccer a fawn casually strolled across the backfield. The kids and adults alike were spellbound. I have video, but no pics, unfortunately.
The shelter to Elvehjem Park is at the top of a hill and there's a nature trail. Plus there are THREE playgrounds; one big one and two smaller ones. This is a hidden gem!
Very expansive park with plenty of options for activities. The tennis courts could use some maintenance, to be sure, but otherwise the playground equipment is in great shape, there’s a decent baseball diamond, and a large flat field perfect for frisbee, soccer, football, etc. The shelter is maintained really well.
I don’t understand the large scale lighting for the field. With no bleachers, no painted turf, or anything to suggest there organized sports being played here at night, I would be interested to know the back story of this park.
The playground equipment has been removed, hopefully it will be replaced, it was a good shady option for sunny days and a good place to take kids while school is in session. The shelter is a little older but in fairly good condition. It is tucked away on the edge of the woods which attracts occaisional vandalism from kids, but can also make for a peaceful spot to gather. Has a big open field which is well maintained.
