Amazing, bike in or hike , or horse ride in only.
Beautiful hike or bicycle ride to Coast Camp at the Point Reyes National Seashore. Park at the hostel for either the 2 mi hike or 3 mile bike ride. Although just a few sights have distant ocean views, the lovely sound of the waves on the shore can be heard from all campsites. Enclosed pit toilets, picnic table, small raised cooking grill, metal bear box, and accessible potable running water are all closeby. Bring steel wool to stuff in holes in food locker to keep mice out.
Perfect beginner's backpacking trip for families. Three flat miles in via Coast Trail and two miles out via Fire Lane/Laguna trails. Beautiful beach, potable water from two faucets, relatively clean pit toilets. I would recommend groups and campers with kids stay in sites 8-14. While they are less private, they are flat, close the water/bathrooms, and mostly on grass instead of dirt (which gets everywhere with kids).
Great campground with beautiful beach, be prepared to hike in around 2 or 3 miles (depends on the trail). if you prefer more privacy I'd recommend to pick a site from 1 to 7 but if you're traveling in a big group 8-14 would be more spacious and comfortable for you. Each campsite has its own bear box, grill, and picnic table which is really convenient!
I highly recommend coast camp to pretty much any type of camper. It's a quick 2-3 mile hike (depending on which route you take) that's relatively easy. My fiance and I took the fire trail from the hostel and biked which made the process much easier and faster. As for the campsite, it was beautiful. We were about 3 minutes from the beach entrance, had coffee with a view of the ocean each morning, and loved the convenience of having water and bathrooms near by. Each campsite has its own grill, bear box, and picnic table which was super useful!
