Address: 41948 N Shore Dr, Big Bear, CA 92314, USA

Park

“I've been hiking this trail for many years, I love it. Great views and so much to teach my granddaughter about nature. The only problem I find is that people don't respect the animals or land.....trash is left and not packed out. We picked up so much garbage, my 7 year old granddaughter knows to leave it cleaner than you found it, sure wish everyone did the same.”

Pineknot Campground

Address: Summit Blvd, Big Bear, CA 92314, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Really beautiful place for camping, camp host is very nice and the bathrooms are always clean. Actually 5 star for cleanness, camp host and location. I am only giving 4 stars because camp grounds are not even and it's little difficult to find flat ground for setting up tents. Over all very happy with our experience. We were a group of 24 and we had booked 3 sites”

“Small but cute park especially for birthday parties or family gatherings. This is my family's go to place for warm weather fun and BBQ’S. There are live animals on the out-skirts (other side of the fence) and the kids love it.”

Green Spot Equestrian Group

Address: 1908 Wildhorse Meadows Rd, Big Bear, CA 92314, USA

Campground Lodging Park

“This is a semi-primitive campsite. There is plenty of room for lots of campers so it is good for big groups. There were fours of us with an RV, tent, and tent-trailer and we left most of the site empty. The toilet on the site is a vault-toilet which, for some odd reason, has two toilets in each room with no dividers. There is no water at the site, so bring your own. The fire pits and barbeques were taped off and could not be used but this may be seasonal because of fire danger. Google Maps does not give good directions for the site and the road is easily bypassed as the campground sign is not at the turn-off. The road is dirt and bumpy but is passable by most passenger vehicles with average ground clearance. The site is only a few minutes from downtown Big Bear but feels very remote since there are not other sites or homes nearby. Cell service at the site is surprisingly good; we had no trouble streaming video at the site and no one had any dropped calls. In summary, this good sized spot is a great place to "rough it" without worrying about bothering others with your noise while still being close enough to town to get a Starbucks in the morning and watch some Netflix before turning in for the night.”

Cougar Crest Trailhead (parking fee area)

“Great 2-mile trail up to the ridge where it meets the Pacific Crest trail. From there you can hike up to Bertha Peak ... The road is very steep but the views from the top are great.”

“Great little pit stop on the way out of Big Bear. I stopped because the weather on the mountain tops made for some pretty spectacular views. There's picnic tables: perfect for a quick sack lunch or snack with good ol mother nature. Well maintained and in such a beautiful spot. Would like to visit when the center is open someday.”

Sugarloaf National Recreation Trail 2E18

Address: 2196 Wildhorse Meadows Rd, Big Bear, CA 92314, USA

Park

“Strenuous but beautiful hike. Road to trailhead parking is really bad. Looks like the flash floods damage it but is passable. I wouldn't recommend low profile vehicles to try to make it through. Low profile vehicles maybe should park at Hatchery and the 38 at the entrance. This hike starts at a slow incline and will get your heart rate going. Your breaks are when trail goes down and then you must go up again. I recommend hiking poles for the down hill back down. Hardest switchbacks are a mile before you summit. Great time to catch your breath and hydrate. Views are beautiful from every corner. Old Greyback looks stunning from many places on your way up. Watch out for falling trees. Yesterday 9-4-22 the trail was clear on the way up. On the way down, half a mile before the trailhead, an old tree fell and was now blocking the trail. Had to hop over it. If you're looking for a challenging hike and solitude, this is the hike. Carry plenty of water on this hot days. The flow of the creek at the beginning of the hike is low.”

Children's Forest Trailhead

Address: 20557-20655 Keller Peak Rd, Big Bear, CA 92314, USA

Park

“We have been hiking in Children's Forest for years, and it never fails to please all, children and adults alike. The trails are easy to hike, bushes are kept back so they don't encroach on the hiking path (important when you have small kiddos running at breakneck speed, giggling hysterically and happily breathing in the fresh air!). The forest has grown back beautifully strong since the fire years ago, the Manzanita is thick and growing tall, the vistas are gorgeous, and even on a hot day like today, the breeze is usually blowing and there is shade available with cool, smooth rocks to sit on when someone needs a break. There are bathrooms and a drinking fountain at the trail head to utilize prior to your hike, and several picnic taes scattered around the parking lot for a quick lunch or snack. Parking is close to the trail head and plentiful, and there are signs stating that an adventure pass is needed for vehicles making use of the area. Trails meander gently and are neither difficult nor too long for any ability, and it is paved, though roughly, and you could probably get a powered wheelchair over most of it with a good battery, or strong arms for a manual wheelchair. We often see strollers on the path as we pass folks, and when our boys were small we hiked with them in the baby backpack comfortably all over the area. There is a small reservoir you can see and take pictures and see off in the distance, and several benches to sit on if you choose to not utilize the many rocks. We were pleased to not see trash or graffiti, as so frequently idiots forget to clean up after themselves - such a treat to hike in a clean forest! I would highly recommend it for any age, kids or adults.”
