“I highly recommend this place. Mr. Jesus Magallon is very caring, and a compassionate person . He is very knowledgeable, and he’s got the time and patience every time we talk to him. He’s never in a rush, a very kind hearted person. The interior of the place is very clean and formal, yet he makes us feel that we own the place. All of our families and friends were impressed when they entered the funeral homes. My mom looked so beautiful and peaceful. We gave him a picture of my mom to have it enlarge and we trully are amazed how her picture turn out. She looked liked she was in heaven. They really did a wonderful job! My families from Australia even want his service and help!”

“I do not have loved ones buried here, but wanted to explore this cemetery as it was established in 1862. It's appeared well maintained and I did not notice any litter or trash strewn about as other reviews state. There are very large old trees and many benches in honor of those deceased located throughout so that you can rest and reflect. The older part of the cemetery with headstones dating back to the mid 1800s is located to the left as you enter. That part of the cemetery is well worth walking through and exploring the old family plots and veterans who lay there. The other part of the cemetery, which is newer is also quite lovely. What we immediately noticed was how colorful and personal the cemetery was. Yes, many of the headstones are decorated in colorful artificial flowers, but I found it quite beautiful as I turned the corner and saw all this lovely color amongst all the headstones. This is part of the culture of the families that visit. It appeared to be primarily families of Eastern European descent. There were quite a few people visiting and cleaning gravesites of loved ones. It was nice to see quite a few people visiting. This is not a large cemetery as it was established well over 100 years ago. I enjoy exploring cemeteries and find them to be peaceful places.”

“PEACEFUL & SPACIOUS! I recently visited this location as my mother lost a good friend and I drove her to locate her friend’s burial site. The roads throughout the cemetery are properly paved and have many routes for easy access to visit loved ones. The cemetery has a lot of grass, some green, some kinda brown. However, it looks very tidy and well-kept. There’s several large trees that give the cemetery an added layer of tranquility. SJ Cemetery is the only large cemetery in the valley and it’s centrally located off of San Jacinto. Many folks I’ve known over the years and locals have relayed that they choose to be buried here. One has a good view of the San Jacinto mountains and the site is pretty quiet. I appreciate that people are respectful when they visit! There’s a small office in the center of the cemetery that’s open for a limited number of hours. If you’re looking to get help or have any questions it’s best to visit the cemetery staff early in the morning. SJ’s cemetery seems to be economical as it’s popular with senior residents of the valley.”

“The history of this cemetery is astounding. I sometimes forget that we do actually have historical sites like this in Southern California. I would highly recommend spending an hour here walking around to read the plaques erected by the historical center - what a great work they did! We learned so much about the history of this area and had a lot of laughs thinking about days gone by. This cemetery is also quiet and secluded. It’s definitely not well kept, which makes sense given the average age of most of these graves. I’d advise wearing sneakers or good walking shoes that can handle piles of leaves and such. Also, we were pretty sure that the “operating hours” aren’t actually a thing that are enforced, because there was no one there the whole time we were there, and when we left at “closing time”, the only thing they likely would have done to lock up would be closing a gate latch. So… I feel like it’s a little flexible. However, I still wouldn’t stay after dark!”

“Everything seemed fully prepared and on schedule. It was a rainy day, and Corcoran Cemetery had set up a canopy to keep everyone dry. The place could use better exterior signage. *Edit: the funeral officiant did an excellent job.”

“I've always liked visiting cemeteries, for the old beautiful monuments and quiet. This has a few older graves but is getting many more recent burials. Waterman is a well traveled road in Elk Grove so I see this cemetery almost daily. We now have some dear friends interred there so I visit them a few times a year. It's nice, well maintained & mostly grassy. Has some good shade trees for the summer. Not the biggest place, perhaps someday they will expand its borders. Has a shaded place with nooks to put urns with cremains into and another gazebo area to rest awhile.”

“Went to see Wyatt Earp's grave. It's a little hard to find, not really marked, but it's very powerful. Someday the graves will go all the way up over the hills and that will be a sight to see. Groundskeepers were pretty nice, there was a ceremony taking place too that I avoided.”

“Planning the funeral services for my father was amongst the most difficult experiences I have had to live through. However, the staff at Lakewood made this experience a much easier one to bear. They were caring, empathetic, and comforting during this very difficult time. They were also very experienced and knowledgeable and helped us through the process. We are extremely appreciative for all the support given to us during this difficult time. Nadya was outstanding, helping us with choosing a beautiful plot for the family, following up with the funeral home, and being 100% present during the internment of my Father. My father’s resting place is a beautiful area overlooking the lake and vineyards at Lakewood. The cool breeze, the beautiful grounds, the peace and serenity, and the great staff at Lakewood were a key deciding factor in selecting our family’s final resting place.”

“My mothers relatives from Italy are buried here. They have one of the very first plots. I visit several times a year. Such a peaceful, serene and beautiful property. Of course it is fun to see feral kitties roaming around. Grounds keepers are respectful and very thoughtful, if you are spending time with loved ones.”
