Not a difficult hike. About 5 hours round trip, amazing views and when you make it to the lake is even better. It will take your breath away!
01/10/2019 I’ve done this hike in the summer, but I find the hike in the winter more enjoyable. The lake is under Mount Meeker with Longs Peak in the background. Yes it does have a sandy beach with trees all around it. Snowshoeing up to this lake can be long with the long uphills.
Good after work hike
Relatively quiet for Rocky Mountain National park and an incredibly appropriate name. Nice sandy beach and good mountain views!
The hike was intense for us non-frequent hikers from below sea level. It was late June and the temperature was warm at the trail head but declined about 20 degrees as we rose. There were a couple of quick 5 minute hail showers near the top. We were hit with a long hail after reaching the lake. Had to set up the tent quickly and could not exit until a few hours. The next day was beautiful weather. We hiked around the lake and filled up on water from the streams feeding into the lake. The wind was intense at times but when the sun was out and the wind stopped, it was awesome.
