“There are a lot of great little spaces to set up camp at Hickory Hill. There are several different areas within the campground that are sheltered with trees and provide a bit of privacy from the other campers in the area. Unlike Yankee Paradise where everyone is pretty much out in the open. There are many options for hanging hammocks and it was really nice that there were still so many ropes in the trees for hanging your stuff. It was disappointing to see how many people left toilet paper and tampon applicators in the woods. If you continue on the parallel trail another mile north of Hickory Hill there is a water source, but you will have to treat it. From the campground if you take the Willow Pond Trail to the east, it's a very pretty and fun hike to the beach. Taking the Willow Pond Trail to the west takes you to the main road. There are horses that run up the parallel trail through the campground so be on the lookout.”

“I noticed before my trip the negative reviews, however my experience was very pleasurable. The staff is excellent. The room was very clean. Has a stove, fridge, and microwave. I always carry bleach with me during travel as i have yet to stay anywhere that the cleanliness was up to my standards but i didnt need my bleach. Everything was clean. Fresh toiletries, fresh linens, very nice room. Pool is clean and not crowded so the children were able to enjoy themselves. The pet fee is affordable 7.50 a day. Just a great overall experience! I will be back in May and stay here again.”

“Perfect place to stay before heading to Cumberland Island. Loved the wrap around porches. Nice kitchen for fixing breakfast. Tea and hot water on the second floor - nice touch to enjoy the second floor sitting room and porch”

“Really enjoyed our stay! The location was perfect. Walking distance to all the restaurants and the ferry to take to Cumberland Island. My son and I had the best time! Food was good and they were very friendly and they went above to be sure we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend! Can't stop thinking about it. My dog loved it there too!”

“If you hike in to Stafford campground, you will appreciate the accommodations. There electricity and water but you MUST filter the water for drinking/cooking. There is no hot water but it is actually ok and refreshing after a long day of hiking. The best place to view the wild horses is just down the access road. The beach is awesome and peaceful. No crowds here probably because it is such an effort to get and stay here. All the campsites are nicely located with tree cover, fire rings and a choice of tent locations. Firewood can be hard to come by so be prepared to scavenge further from camp.”

“We had a wonderful time at this hotel. The front desk was wonderful and very helpful. We took advantage of the packed lunch for Cumberland Island and loved it. We also ate at the restaurant on site… best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had! We also visited the bar and listened to a great band. I definitely will come back and recommend it!”

“Great place for a fun & flexible getaway! Close enough to town to have viable alternatives for entertaining little ones if the weather turns (there's a zoo, for example), last minute items, or even a couple of pizzas if the fish are shy. Modern conveniences & thoughtful touches such as Wi-Fi & satellite TV, plus a stock of books & good old "offline" board games are placed throughout. The architecture is what you would expect from a residence built in the early 1900s. 12 ft ceilings, oversized windows make it a light & roomy, yet a solid and secure home. It's earned a place on my short list of favorites!”

“Such a beautiful cottage. I am obsessed with mermaids so this was such an amazing experience. Where the place is, is so peaceful and quiet. Our stay there was perfect and whenever I visit Florida again, I will definitely be staying there!”
