West Park

Park

“A playground, basketball court, and baseball diamond dominate the east entrance. A field with soft rolling hills and a generous shared walk/bike road opens from the west. Along the southern wall, canopy covers a thin and narrow path with birds, chipmunk, and squirrels. It took me about 8 minutes to cross, stopping here and there.”

No matter what season you visit, you are bound to find something new that takes your breath away. There are seven different trails ranging from 0.8 miles (1.3 km) up to 5.3 miles (8.5 km) with views of Mill Lake, Spring Lake, and Crooked Lake.”

Coldwater Lake State Park

Address: Coldwater, MI 49036, USA

Park

“We came here to get our hundredth and final geocache for the Michigan State Park Centennial Geotour. It was nice to get out of the car and stretch our legs for a little bit, take a short walk. On a warmer day, it would be nice to take the trail farther and see how long it goes. It was kind of nice in the winter, though, because everything wasn't overgrown.”

Huntington Woods Park & Rec

Address: 26325 Scotia Rd, Huntington Woods, MI 48070, USA

“We were there for a swim meet. The club also has several tennis courts. Grounds were well kept. The pool water looked clearer than many other clubs that we have swam against. Huge scoreboard.”

McLaughery Creek Park

Address: Wayne, MI 48184, USA

Park

“A beautiful park. Because of its location and orientation evening can suffuse the place with deep colors. Conducive for photography or special occasions. It could use some tender loving care but comes with several picnic tables in good condition, a grill, unique benches and trees. Long needle pine is here as well as ginko, elm, oak and others.”

The play areas are well-maintained, ensuring a fun and secure environment for children of all ages. While Avondale Park offers numerous amenities and recreational opportunities, it's important to note a couple of downsides. Despite this, the park remains a preferred choice for those who prioritize open spaces and playgrounds. Avondale Park also boasts a generous amount of parking, which ensures easy access for visitors. In summary, Avondale Park in Wayne, Michigan, is a vast and versatile green space that caters to a range of outdoor activities. It's an ideal location for picnics and barbecues, thanks to its barbecue-friendly environment, picnic tables, and pavilion. Families with kids will appreciate the modern and well-maintained playscape, while the abundance of parking spaces makes it easily accessible. However, visitors should be mindful of the lack of running water and restroom facilities, which may require some advance planning.”

Wellington Park

Address: 500 Bruce St, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, USA

Park

“Cute small neighborhood playground from babies to kids 5-6 years old. Regular sand box with shade for sunny days. No restrooms or portable potty and no water fountain. Lot of open space with nice grass. Half cement path as a sidewalk. It would be awesome if community around ask city for completing the sidewalk around the park. That would be ideal for kids with bikes.”

Island Park

Address: 1420 Island Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, USA

Park

“Great little park in the heart of Ann Arbor. Beautiful foliage in the fall with a lot of moving water to view. It's a nice little slice of nature to escape the hustle and hustle of the city. There is a building there that is just described as a shelter. While it's a beautiful building, it seems sort of odd and out of place for the park but maybe there is more history to it than I know.”

Onsted State Game Area

Address: 42°02'50."N 84°14'."W, NE 50th Ave, 7, MI 49230, USA

Park

“Nice place to wander around, fish, hunt or kayak if any of those activities are your thing. There really aren't "hiking trails" per se but rather random paths going in all directions. Despite no trail markers it's unlikely you'll get lost. During hunting season it's probably best to stick to the roads or the lakes and give the hunters some space. Very nice lakes with no houses (maybe 1 or 2). Depending on the water levels most of the lakes are connected with the exception of Grassy Lake. If you are adventurous you can locate the Rasin River where it connects into and exits the chain of lakes. You can't go far up or down river but it is fun trying to locate the river and explore. Fishing is pretty good and has little pressure. Each lake is very different. Grassy lake is extremely shallow and One mile very deep with mostly steep drop offs from shore. No motors allowed on all lakes (except maybe Grassy lake) which mentioned is very shallow. There is a decent boardwalk down to one mile lake to put in your kayak or canoe. I think the star of the area are the roads. Beautiful sections of tree lined roads which are stunning in the fall. Cons are there are lots of ticks in the area and years of abandoned junk from illegal dumping and some litter throughout. Also some locals use it to "hang out" which is their right but could make some uncomfortable. As mentioned it's not setup for "hiking" but still nice to wander through the woods and wetland areas. Accessing the lakes from any place other than the 3 designated areas (2 boardwalks or the 1 small ramp) is difficult because of the wetlands and vegetation.”

Loon Feather Point Park

Address: 1340 S Grove St, Ypsilanti, MI 48198, USA

“This seems like a nice place for kids and for fishing. We ended a long kayak journey down the Huron here. They don’t have the best place for taking out with a kayak, but it’s doable!”

Civic Center Park

Address: 24135 Hall Rd, Woodhaven, MI 48183, USA

Park

“First time ever going to Sam jam! Kids loved it! Very nice place. We went on Sunday for rides, way less busy during the day then when we went Friday evening for fireworks. Definitely worth the money! Kids enjoyed it so much! Aside from Sam jam, the public park they have is absolutely fantastic I highly recommend the park to! 😀”

“A great campground for all! Plenty of activities for everyone. They had a concert one night. They also had a nice craft show. The grounds are kept near and orderly. Our power was 30 amp service. Cart rental was out of carts but understandably you need to reserve ahead of time. Worth it as the campground is quite large.”

“Nice peaceful place”

The Burgh Historical Park

Address: 23960 Civic Center Dr, Southfield, MI 48033, USA

Park

“Cozy little neighborhood park with an old church that serves as an event space. It's always clean, and they keep up with the landscaping. The only con is the past several times that I have stopped by, the fountain wasn't running. I'm not sure if it's under repair or permanently closed. It is a cute feature of the park, and I hope they get it running or replaced. Nice place for wedding or engagement photos or just a quiet place to spend an afternoon. FYI: There's no area for kids. I have seen a volleyball net but no swings or playscape. Also, there are no public restrooms that I have seen. They do have them inside the old church, but I don't believe they are open to the public.”

Martha-Myrtle Playgound

Address: 23145 Myrtle St, Dearborn, MI 48128, USA

Park

“Small neighborhood playground. This location is always either full or empty. Nothing in between. Just know if you’re planning a kids birthday or family reunion here, you may want to do it on a week day rather than a weekend as those days are usually less crowded. Overall, park is maintained well by the city and it’s in a sage neighborhood.”

Marsh View Meadows

Address: 300 E Textile Rd, Saline, MI 48176, USA

“A beautiful walk in the woods, nice and quiet with very few people. Had a lovely long sit on the marsh pier watching the ducks and muskrats, and reading a book. Need to remember mosquito repellent next time”

“Cute little park we stopped at after a doctor's appointment. I absolutely loved it. Sadly you can hear the highway from the park would be so peaceful without the noise.”

Washtenong Memorial Park

Address: 3771 Whitmore Lake Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, USA

Cemetery Park

“I’ve been dealing with this place since my Grandmother’s death in 1989. I’ve watched it change hands and go downhill - so much that I’ve spent years trying to find a way to move my family out of there. Last week I got a call from Jessica, who told me that the cemetery was bought by a company called Ever Story. Well if she is any indication of what this new company is like, it’s a pretty great company! Not only did she call to ask what they could do for me, but she had the grounds people give my family grave markers a lift and repaired my parents grave stone - something I’d been trying to have done for years. I’m so impressed! Maybe we’ll just stay around!”
