Opus 40

Address: 356 George Sickle Rd, Saugerties, NY 12477, USA

Museum

“Opus 40 is an interesting place. It was nice to walk around and sit a little. We visited on the way to somewhere else, which was perfect and I recommend. I don’t think it’s worth going well out of your way to visit, unless you’re extremely hyped for Opus 40 and want to spend significant time there. It is an impressive piece of work that one man put together. There is a museum on the property with old work tools and a video explaining the artist and the process.”

New Museum

Address: 235 Bowery, New York, NY 10002, USA

Museum

“New Museum is awesome! It has great exhibitions and very greatly done design shop with local design, great books and more. The only thing I wanted to see and it was closed was the sky room with the view, they told us it will be open the following day, but it was not.”

H. Lee White Maritime Museum

Address: 1 W 1st St, Oswego, NY 13126, USA

Museum

“Kid friendly and we had the best guide today! He was so good with the kids, asked great questions AND gave all the kids a chance to answer! Plus he’d been to all the maritime museums we’d been to and Battleship Cove so that was fun for the kids also. It’s a small but really well done piece of history! Our guide also recommended a fun kid friendly restaurant 🥰 we really enjoyed Rudy’s so thank you Mr. Guide”

Medina Railroad Museum

Address: 530 West Ave, Medina, NY 14103, USA

Museum

“Very nice museum to go to. The massive train model I believe is the biggest at least in New York state. They have a scavenger hunt to find certain things on the models and within the room. Most of my pictures are of just the trains but along the sides of the room is tons of memorabilia from fireman items to old oil lamps. You could spend hours looking and find something new. When I was there we took the train for a ride. It goes over a gorgeous bridge over the Erie canal. All the staff were very polite and knowledgeable. I highly recommend going there for a visit. I didn't post the train that you ride on so you will have to find out for yourself 🙂”

Salamanca Rail Museum

Address: 170 N Main St, Salamanca, NY 14779, USA

Museum

“A cute little museum. The last was extremely knowledgeable about the history and future plans of the railway. They hope to extend the railway in the next few years to bring it back to it's former glory and I hope they do. Salamanca is such a cute town and should definitely be a tourist spot.”

Historic Cherry Hill

Address: 523 1, 2 S Pearl St, Albany, NY 12202, USA

“We enjoyed a wonderful, informative tour and were able to ask a lot of questions. Our guide Meghan was knowledgeable, friendly, and authoritative. We toured in June, so the gardens outside were just lovely. Lots of great information about the owners, but also about the workers who kept Cherry Hill running. Highly recommended.”

Empire State Plaza

Center for Brooklyn History

Address: 128 Pierrepont St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, USA

Library Museum

“This is a beautiful setting in a beautiful neighborhood. The exhibits are well done, but they aren't so extensive or so numerous that you feel overwhelmed — you can feel like you get something out of it even in a short visit. And don’t miss the library on the second level. You can view it from just inside the doors, or if you want to see it more up close and peruse some of its holdings, you can sign in at the library’s front desk.”

Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art

Address: 1 Hawk Dr, New Paltz, NY 12561, USA

Museum

“Great expwriance getting to see family artwork being shown”

Crailo State Historic Site

Address: 9 1/2 Riverside Ave, Rensselaer, NY 12144, USA

Museum

“Crailo today tells the story of the early Dutch inhabitants of the upper Hudson Valley through exhibits highlighting archeological finds from the Albany Fort Orange excavations, special programs, and guided tours of the museum. A few rooms in the house exhibit artifacts from the Dutch settlers of NY state. Two rooms in the house recreate what the house looked when it was being used by the Van Rensselaers. One is a living room of it's day with a very interesting box like bed where people slept upright. The other is the kitchen, which is located in the basement. The tour guide did a very good job at this house and the staff is friendly. For a small museum it does a good showing what life was like for Dutch settlers. The Dutch chairs are also interesting. If necessary the house could also double as a fort. One gunport in seen in the house, in case of an attack on the house. Some parts of the house are original other parts have been remodeled. There is a small gift shop inside. Staff was friendly. Call ahead to see when the best time to come is.”

Plattsburgh Air Force Base Museum

Address: 31 Washington Rd, Plattsburgh, NY 12903, USA

Museum

“This is a great museum. The docent when I visited was a KC-135 pilot and was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force base until it closed in 1995. He was very nice and explained things to me. Donations are accepted, but it is free.”

Hart-Cluett House

Address: 57 2nd St, Troy, NY 12180, USA

Museum Library

“We went on a Saturday morning walking tour of Underground Railroad sites which ended up at the Hart-Cluett Museum. Were so impressed with the great information and history storytelling that we ended up adding on a tour of the Hart-Cluett Mansion, which was also fascinating. Kudos to our tour guides Andrew and Kathy. A very educational and inspiring day.”

Mandeville Gallery

Address: Nott Memorial, 807 Union St, Schenectady, NY 12308, USA

Art gallery Museum

“I've only been in the art gallery once, a long time ago when I was still in elementary school. I normally walk through Union college and passed the Mandeville gallery. I go there now for the pokestops 😂😂😂 Still a great place to sit and relax or study.”

Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit New York City

Address: 299 South St Pier 36, 299 South St, New York, NY 10002, USA

Museum

“Absolutely mesmerizing experience with a great visual treat for your eyes with amazing music in the background. Very strongly recommend. They also have a nice cafe, parking and great gift shop (but pricey for single items but bundle offers are there) inside. They also check vaccination status. Book tickets at least a few days in advance. Van Gogh's paintings were projected as a video on to all 4 walls and the floor and the transitions were smooth and really good to watch. The entire presentation lasts for about 30-35 minutes but is worth seeing at least twice.”

Lily Dale Museum

Address: 16-18 Library St, Lily Dale, NY 14752, USA

American Folk Art Museum

“While it's not a massive space, I absolutely loved the collection of Hirschfield pieces. Some truly iconic pieces of art that you won't find anywhere else. Great spot to spend an hour two strolling around along with plenty of space to take a seat and relax. Surprisingly busy. Arrived minutes after they first opened and there was already a small crowd inside. FREE admission. FREE lockers! Clean spacious bathrooms.”

The Strong National Museum of Play

Address: 1 Manhattan Square Dr, Rochester, NY 14607, USA

Museum

“This museum is a perfect place to go, it doesn’t matter if you are young or if you are older. It has all the history of all the games we’ve been using growing up. The museum is super clean and organized. It has a lot of activities that you can do including the observatory and the ticket machines that you can play on. I’ve been there twice and I really enjoyed the college nights they would do. It was amazing to learn and enjoy it with people from your school or same age.”

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Address: 1000 5th Ave, New York, NY 10028, USA

Museum

“One of the best museums that I've ever been to, aside from the Louvre in Paris. It's one of the few places that is always on my list whenever I'm in New York. The MET is a big museum with lots to see, it's hard to see all the art and artifacts within a day so if you're looking to explore as much of the museum as possible I recommend going early. You can grab a ticket from the ticketing desk when you're there or from the automated kiosk, I highly recommend the automated kiosk since it is much faster. There's audio guides for the art and artifacts within the MET which I highly recommend, since it gives context to what you're looking at. The museum is beautifully set up and built, they have permanent and temporary exhibits. Every exhibit is made with such care that you feel as though you're transported back in time. The Chinese courtyard inside the museum is one of my favourites. I also got a chance to see a lot of beautiful dresses for their fashion week exhibit, which was very tastefully displayed and set up. I highly recommend the MET for anyone looking to checkout a museum with lots of interesting arts and artifacts! It's definitely an experience like no other.”

Mabee Farm Historic Site

Address: 1100 Main St, Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150, USA

“Tours of the historical buildings, stories of how things were done in the past. This place is fun and educational! This trip was a 4th if July celebration. It is also fun without the holiday.”

Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum

Address: 717 Lakeport Rd, Chittenango, NY 13037, USA

Museum

“Unfortunately the museum was closed when we were at the park however the outdoor exhibits are easily seen from the tow path. Photo shown is not of museum but of existing buildings from the canal's operating era”

The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: Hudson Valley

Address: 525 S Riverside Ave, Croton-On-Hudson, NY 10520, USA

Museum

“This thing is amazing! We came several years ago before our daughter was born and then the exhausted brain of parenthood and a pandemic led us to kinda forget about it until tickets were sold out each year. But this year we remembered! The Blaze is great with separate areas dedicated to themes. My favorite was an area dedicated to famous works of art but my daughter (6) really liked the rave house. Some things to know -- buy your tickets months in advance. It sells out quick. Know that you're going to wait in your car for about 30 minutes to get to the parking lot. Bring hot drinks for your people so you don't wait in line for another 30 minutes.”

The Manes Center

Address: 1 Museum Dr, Roslyn Harbor, NY 11576, USA

Museum

“This is a separate building from the main museum house, and has its own exhibits as well as an admission fee of $5 as of August 2021. It also holds occasional art workshops.”

Irish American Heritage Museum

Address: 21 Quackenbush Square, Albany, NY 12207, USA

Museum

“This is a new museum but it has some great exhibits! I definitely enjoyed my visit there. They are still in process of completing one section but was still worth the visit. Also, it is free!”
