“Absolutely wonderful hidden gem. For the price, you can't beat it! The private island has 50 or so sites from vast group sites with amazing views of incoming ships to intimate nooks protected from the wind and shade. The staff, who ferries you across the channel on pontoon boat, and brings your gear to your spot on 4x4 is simply stellar. Friendly, responsive, and adaptive to parties of all size. You can order firewood by the bundle, which they will drop at your site for you. The ferries are nearly constantly running, so it's easy to hop back into town if you need to grab a bite to eat or some additional supplies. The only "negatives" are no running water, about which they are very transparent, and honestly if you are camping you are already used to that, and pit toilets due to said lack of running water. If you like a good hybrid between car camping and backpacking this is for you!”

“Ever walked into somewhere and knew right away that it was filled with good energy and love? This place is like that! Nature that reminds you how beautifully and wonderfully you were made? Listen to the water flow over the rocks, swim in nice clean natural water, walk around the trails in the trees and listen to the birds chirp, pet the animals and watch the rabbits whisk over the grass. This is a peaceful place to get away and wholesome for the whole family! Clean bathrooms and showers, respectful people. Come try it out for yourselves!”

“Beautiful place to take the family for a Sunday drive and stretch - walk around the pond and get some yummy food. Beautiful seating arrangement. Camping areas nearby and cute little town.”

“Beautiful place! 🤔 When I read botanical Gardens, I picture a manicured landscape/garden/outdoor area. This is very much just wild outdoor park, it doesn't seem maintained. Howerver we were just looking for some small park hike to enjoy some nature, and this was perfect. It does look a little scary when you first get there but just keep going because it was beautiful and relaxing. We spotted lots of birds two 🦌 and so much beautiful green. Have fun!”

“Update: We have taken our little girl several times to visit her friends over the past several months. Due to lots of heavy rains wasn’t able to make it weekly, however we go as often as possible. Most recent being last Sunday. I do advice to be sure to bring a water bowl and water, the babies definitely need their water while playing so vigorously with their buddies! Original post: My pup really enjoys herself at the park and meeting up with her pup friends! We stay for about 90 minutes to 2 hours and she is tired for the next day or so! Other half delivers for his job nearby and told me about the park. We come to Oregon every weekend from our home in Washington (by Olympia) and decided last week to see how our little girl does with other dogs and in a dog park setting. She loves it and loves visiting her friends! We have went 2 weeks in a row and plan to make it a weekly adventure for her.”

“Island campground accessible to all paid campers via boat shuttle (included in cost to camp -- $30/site, up to 6 people per site). Two well-maintained docks on the Oregon side of the island for those with owned boats/watercraft to access island as they please. Site description/photos online do not accurately capture the sites; I'd recommend waiting to book until you arrive. Bathrooms are composting toilets + urinals. No shavings available for composting toilets when I visited, floors were pretty gross too. There are handwashing stations outside, no sanitizer just soap + water but no paper towels. There are trash and recycling bins available, but no water so BYO. Very windy on the points, make sure to bring tent stakes!”

“This park is an anglers jump point for guided tours and paddlers paradise. With canoe and kayak rentals from 'Next Adventure' if you're an enthusiast of angling or ornithology the setting is perfect. They now have an RV dump ($15) and have a sprinkler system for the new plants. Walking/ biking trails gives access to the river for a little bank fishing. Or, if you love paddling, 'Next Adventure' has what you need. A boat launch and fishing charters are also available for your NW angling adventures. Coin op showers in coded bathrooms for paying guests so you don't have to fill your black and grey tanks. There are already grey disposal areas around the park.”

“Very nice park for a light hike. There aren't any hills to climb and it's well maintained. My wife and I look forward to hiking their trails every time we visit the area. The wildlife makes the park homey.”

“A beautiful rail-trail but as others have said, perfect for cycling (with fatter tires), a little less stimulating as a hike. If you've done Banks-Vernonia it's similar except not paved and a bit steeper. Really love all the informational signage along the trail! Lots of cool history, geology, etc. As of 12/1/21 the trail is closed in between the last two trailheads nearest Vernonia (Holce and Wilark) due to active logging. There was no info about this on at any of the other trailheads or online. I decided to detour on the road to get around which has little shoulder but was lightly trafficked at the time. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're used to that kind of riding. I guess maybe call the county to see if it's reopened if you're planning on doing the whole trail. It could definitely cause issues if you're planning to resupply water and/or snacks in Vernonia. Scaponia Park does have water but it has a lot of sulfur in it and sure tastes like it!”

“Camp Wilkerson is a truly wonderful and magical place. The natural beauty—including its meadows, trails, streams, and trees—feels sacred. My husband and I had our wedding there recently and were lucky enough to be able to reserve the whole campground from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. The wedding buildings, including the lodge and schoolhouse, were perfect for what we needed—clean, rustic, open-air, and just stunning. There’s a beautiful stone fire place in the lodge building for chilly evenings, and a great industrial size kitchen. The bathrooms are clean and kept heated with plenty of hot water in the showers. The 3 cabins were absolutely perfect for our moms and their friends to stay in, with heating and comfortable beds. The rest of our group fanned out across the many tent sites, Adirondack shelters, and RV spots. This is a magical place and little had to be done to create a beautiful weekend against the gorgeous natural backdrop. We were able to have bonfires with friends, decorate the lodge how we wanted, cook food, store ice, fit more than enough guests with the existing picnic tables for meals, and use beautiful wood pews for our service. This is the perfect venue for a fun and relaxing campground wedding near Portland. Most of all, the camp hosts, Connie and Jim, are the sweetest people ever. It was such a joy to work with them. If you commit to try to be clean, kind, and courteous, I have no doubt they will go above and beyond for you like they did for us. There’s no doubt we’ll be coming back again with family and friends for years to come. Camp Wilkerson is forever in our hearts!”

“Restrooms were locked on a Wednesday afternoon. Portable restroom hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. Beautiful meanandering paved walking trail takes you around the lake and over one walking bridge. Dog-friendly. Lots of crows, varieties of geese, ducks, Great Blue Heron and American White Pelican. We saw people fishing from the shore. Picnic tables and a few benches along the trail. Well maintained.”
