Went primitive camping here for free in early March for 4 days and loved it! We drove to the front desk to check in but you actually don't have to check in at all if you're just parking at like a trail head or parking zone for primitive camping, wish we knew that before haha. When we went there was also a lot of controlled burns happening which nobody told us about that actually wasted an entire day driving around but honestly its such a gorgeous place to drive hard to get upset haha. Massive pine trees everywhere! Fireflies at night incredible hiking trails, the weather was perfect for us. Slightly humid. One thing I didn't care for is that there's a lot of dirt bike trails, a lot. You feel as though you're one with nature and vrooooom a dirt bike but again its so beautiful its hard to get mad. I get the appeal seems like an amazing place to mountain bike and bird watch too :)
Very nice place to go to get away from the city. Really pretty hiking in the winter!
Hello, I would like to tell you about this wonderful experience that I spent with my family in the forest at the end of last year. I decided to go to Houston on vacation and I am a nature lover as well as my family and once in Houston we look for places of a wide diversity and we found this forest for us as a family to walk there outdoors enjoying the variety of birds variety of trees and plants was very nice it was very comforting and I hope to have the opportunity again to visit this forest to walk along its paths by its lake In other words, I recommend To Dos that if they are in Houston, go and enjoy this wonderful place and its pure air that God bless you
Very clean hiking trails and camping space. The whole experience was peaceful and beautiful. Everyone we ran into on the trail were nice and welcoming. Went on a great hiking/camping trip with our club at Wharton County Junior College. Will definitely be returning soon for a trip of my own. Highly recommend, although phone service is spotty at best. Use it as a time to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
