“My boyfriend and I spent a weekend on Tangier Island. Our airbnb host recommended that we get the takeout breakfast from Hilda Crockett's Chesapeake House. We only needed one order because the portions were huge! We very much enjoyed our breakfast. We came back that evening for dinner. We were joined by 2 other couples and enjoyed a family style meal with our new friends. The food was good.”

“If you're looking to get away for a couple days, this is the place! If you are looking for bars and lots of choices to eat out, you'll want to stick with Virginia Beach. I suggest calling to rent the place directly from Claudine and Tommy to avoid the middleman charge on the home rental websites. They rent golf carts and bicycles through their restaurant, so be sure to reserve one when you call. It will make getting around on the island a lot easier. This is the type of place where you can let the kids go out with no worries. The kids who live on the island are running around all over the place, and even using the playground down the street near the school. As far as the island, there's not a ton of things to do, so be prepared. There's one grocery store that only gets one shipment a week, so it would be wise to bring your own groceries and snacks depending on how long you are staying. There are only a few places to eat, and only one is open year round. Many places are also closed on Sundays. The food was great, but fairly basic. Just about everything has to be brought in, so it's also not cheap. Expect to pay about $50 for a decent meal for two. We only ate out once each day. One important thing to know about Tangier is that no one sells alcohol, so bring your own. It's not illegal or anything, just no one on the island is licensed to sell alcohol. I brought my own cooler for the boat ride there. Once you arrive, the house has a full size refrigerator for everything. We got a couple frozen meals from the grocery store for later at night. The restaurants don't stay open late, and the grocery store closes even earlier. We were the first guests of the season, and Tommy had scheduled the satellite TV to be installed that day. Unfortunately, the installer missed the boat, so he couldn't make it until we left. This is just one of the realities of life on an island. There's just nothing you can do. It was no worries for us, but Tommy will make sure that this gets done, so I feel pretty confident it's installed and ready to go as I type this. You can tell from the pictures that Claudine and Tommy put a lot of work into decorating, and they did a wonderful job. They are great people and will make sure everything is perfect. The DSL internet speed probably isn't what you're used to if you live in the city, but it will get you by. The cell phone signal on the island is weak to non-existent, but there's a landline phone in the house, and wifi calling on the cell phones worked fine. When you arrive, you'll notice the distinctive accent of people who grew up here. They really tame it down for people from the mainland, but if you happen upon a group of watermen taking almost each other, you might need an interpreter. There are a lot of phrases used here that need translation, but you can visit the museum down the street to learn all about that. It's a fascinating place to visit, especially if you've never been here. I always seem to be drawn back to the island.”

“Great people. Jim & Maureen were very welcoming. It was like hanging with people you knew for awhile. Rent a golf cart to see the island. The view from the top deck for sunsets was wonderful. We had breakfast the next morning and our host gave us some history about the inn & island. I would definitely return.”

“My boyfriend and I spent a weekend on Tangier Island. We rented an airbnb for our stay along with a golf cart. The golf carts are first come first serve and there didn't seem to be very many available. We did our research before arriving to the island so we made a beeline for Four Brothers as soon as we arrived to make sure we got a cart. They do not take reservations ahead of time. We also got lunch at Four Brothers one day. We tried the Flatbread Crab Melt. It was very good. We also tried their ice cream. It is basically a snack shack that also rents out golf carts.”
