“Stomping Ground is a cafe on Mt Vernon Avenue in the heart of Del Ray in Alexandria, Virginia. It's a small cafe, but popular in the neighborhood and with mighty food. The staff are friendly, efficient, and make a mean biscuit. For just a few dollars, I ordered a hot, large biscuit with butter and jam (each item cost 50 cents extra). I also got a vanilla bean iced latte. It was the perfect breakfast!”

“If a children's museum and a playground were fused together, you'd get Scramble. Instead of focusing on competition or challenges, the play space is all about exploration. It's a subtle thing, but it means that kids play together and stay happy together. The establishment is clean, spacious, and well maintained. Staff courteous, gentle, and seemingly well prepared to keep things on the level. We had our daughter's fourth birthday here, and it was a blast. Even the parents enjoyed themselves, which for us is the gold standard of a kids birthday. Final note, instead of a gift shop selling cheap plastic toys, this place has a wonderful bookstore with great kids books. That basically captures the energy of the place perfectly. Take your kids there, have a birthday party there, we suspect you won't be disappointed, we never are.”

“Laurel was warm and compassionate while also very practical and smart about the best strategies for selling our home. She took on a lot of the grunt work in getting our house ready for market as we had to move very quickly for a job transfer, and she always arrived with a smile. Her staging was beautiful, and she spent a great deal of time marketing our house with professional photos and videos. She was also very patient, even when we got frustrated with the process. Her instincts are rock solid, and when we listed our home in the window she thought would be most effective, we received an offer, above asking, within 24 hours. “Just wanted to give a shout-out to the pharmacist (I think his name is Doug). After waiting over 2 weeks for my doctor's office to approve additional refills on a routine medication (one I take daily and had to go without for a week because the office failed to respond to the pharmacy or me), then seeing my doctor and having them send the new Rx to the WRONG pharmacy (still unsure how they managed this when they clearly already had the information from my previous Rx), Doug was extremely patient and helpful with continuing to contact my doctor's office and the other pharmacy, and even managed to get the medication ready within 30 minutes of me first contacting him and realizing that the Rx had been sent to the wrong place. I really appreciate having a pharmacist who is so willing to help clients, patient, professional, and efficient. Glad that I chose this pharmacy when relocating to the area.”

“Oasis of green and wood within commercial and residential development in Alexandria's west end. I was last here a decade ago, before the military buildings at Marc Center. From the porch of Catherine's Lodge (I you tune out the generator blaring to the South, you see nothing but a wall of green and hear water splashing from the dam. (Don't worry about the interstate just beyond the retaining wall. Don't wonder where the water is coming from.) Winkler Preserve survived the commercial development. Besides the entrance off the road, you can also enter through the woods at a complex off Marc Center drive. We saw three deer.”
