It's a wonderful place to walk your dog or your animals. To sit and read a book or even take some sun in the summer. Just sitting under a tree and spending time with family is wonderful.”

Civil War Unknowns Memorial

Address: Sherman Dr, Fort Myer, VA 22211, USA

Park

“The monument, dedicated in September 1866, stands atop a masonry vault containing the remains of 2,111 soldiers gathered from the fields of Bull Run and the route to the Rappahannock. The remains were found scattered across the battlefields or in trenches and brought here. This monument was the first memorial at Arlington to be dedicated to soldiers who had died in battle, and who later could not be identified. Because in some instances only a few bones or a skull were recovered, it is assumed that the vault contains the remains of Confederate soldiers as well as Union troops.”

US Marine Corps War Memorial

Address: Arlington, VA 22209, USA

Park

“What a tribute to the all American hero. Take a walk from Arlington National Cemetery and the grave markers set the tone for this amazing statue. The heroic touch by these young soldiers so many years ago is a lasting reminder of what the flag stands for. I also love that this memorial can be seen for miles around. It’s a little off the beaten path and after so many years of visiting DC this is my first time, and definitely a favorite.”

Clarendon Central Park

Address: 3140 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201, USA

Park

“The park itself is a bit dirty and several transients were there smoking, but they payed me no mind as I walked about the war memorial, which was pretty cool and of historical interest. It is located right over the Clarendon Metro stop and is a nice break between two roads, as the other reviewer noted. Worth a stop if you’re interested in history or wish to take a little rest. Cheers.”

Crystal City Water Park

“Good atmosphere with tables and chair and little shop stand for light snacks and drinks. Often see people come here to take wedding picture and other special occasion. Before the lockdown, when it is nice outside, there is often music and beer garden hosted here. The sound from the fountain make us forget for a second that we are surrounded by building and busy city life. Kids and pet are welcome here. Safe environment.”

Fillmore Park

Address: 33 N Fillmore St, Arlington, VA 22201, USA

“Located behind Long Branch Elementary School, Fillmore Park features playground equipment, monkey bars and slides for children ages 2-12. Outside of school hours, the park is hardly ever visited by neighborhood children. There is a small baseball field, which is mostly used by local minor leagues on weekends. There is a picnic area under the shades of mature trees with two tables, but there are no grills. There is no restroom or water fountain in the park (April 2019).”

Mosaic Park

Address: 538 N Pollard St, Arlington, VA 22203, USA

Park

“I normally give all parks 5 stars but not this time. It is a nice urban green space that is not developed to its potential at all. I know Arlington Parks and Planning and they usually don't skimp or let their spaces fall into such an undefined and unmaintained state. Maybe it is on the books to be renovated. The nice little playground equipment that is there is used by the kids in the area. It should be 4 times as big. You could do Tai Chi or there or have a picnic but it is surrounded by traffic and apartments and restaurants.”

Long Branch Nature Center & Park

“This has everything for a local nature center. A very knowledgeable staff and many activities for the young. The park has many hiking trails, a children’s playground and a very popular dog park. Two streams flow through the park with stocked trout every year for opportunities for kids to learn how to fish. There are also two group areas with one designed for the disabled. The park is a good starting point to bike ride on the W&OD trial that runs along the edge of the park. This trail will take you to the Mt. Vernon trail and into Washington DC, or out to Leesburg, VA.”
