“Along the Bull Run Occoquan Trail is a great hike. Lots of terrain and occasional views of the reservoir. Consider dropping off a car further upstream and make it a one-way hike. Note that the gate may not be open until 10 AM. A closed gate means an extra half mile walk to the trailhead. For loop hikes, go further upstream to Hemlock Overlook Park.”

“Lovely park to take a nice long peaceful walk at. My mom and I use to walk around the whole lake for our daily exercise. This park is one of few where you can go out for a walk worry free and not feel like someone’s following you, it doesn’t have that “dangerous feeling” to it. It’s very open and theirs always people walking, running or riding their bikes.”

Burke Lake Park Train & Carousel

Address: 7315 Ox Rd, Fairfax Station, VA 22039, USA

Park

“Review for the summertime when the train is running. This is an awesome outdoor train ride. The real deal in terms of a steam engine. The driver really hits the gas, the kids love the tunnel, the ride is generously long, and the station is really tastefully put together. Couldn't get my kid off it, and for something like $3 a ride, I was happy to oblige.”

Lake Mercer Dam

Address: 9500 Silverbrook Rd, Fairfax Station, VA 22039, USA

“Beautiful to walk on the top of the dam overlooking the lake. Walk or run the trail all the way from Lake Mercer to Burke Lake without crossing any traffic. Wooded trails include lots of wildlife, you'll frequently see deer, squirrels, owls, fox, frogs, and birds. Trail is well maintained overall - expect some steep hills along the way. A great way to get away from the bustle of the city and to enjoy time with the family.”
