“As a first time visitor to Norfolk, I had to see the beaches. I am gulf girly myself, but this was just the most serene place I’ve ever been. I sat here for three hours. It was just so peaceful. Worth the stop! It does get pretty crowded after lunch time, but from 10-12 I was pretty much alone.”

“This facility is so old it is hard to believe that operation has not ceased. It is one of the few 50 Meter pools in this area which makes it desirable. They maintain the pool okay, but window seals around the pool are just nasty and bug ridden. Everything is just old! Outdoor pool is no longer open this Summer due to military budget cuts. As well no swim meets take place here any longer. The grounds around in the back area are no longer maintained and it usually looks like a field. Chucks of wood have been known to just fall off the ceiling. The parking lot is well maintained and free from debris. You must be military to swim in this pool. Also swim club utilize it, so make sure you know their schedule.”

“Beautiful, large botanical gardens. Wonderful variety of local and exotic floral. You just feel happy walking around this beautiful garden. We spent several hours here, there is ample parking, a nice visitor center with multiple bathrooms on site throughout the gardens. There's a gift shop, and tour guides available. We did speak with several garden employees, all. We're very friendly and knowledgeable about the different species of plants. The garden was very clean, fragrant, and just plain lovely. Went during the summer months early in the morning before it got warm. It did take several hours, and I'm not even sure if we saw it all. There are many maps throughout the gardens to help you navigate grounds, and you do receive a paper copy when you enter through the gate. The gardens itself is very child friendly, with a large children's garden with interactive splash pads and a center. This would definitely be a cool place to take toddlers to spend the day. We took our two school age children and they enjoyed it very much. They had a good time learning about the plants, exploring the grounds, and also viewing the planes taking off on the other side of the gardens. Would recommend bringing some water, wearing good shoes, and spending several hours here to truly explore the whole thing.”

“Love it here! The waves are a lot calmer and it's much better for families with little ones. We could still touch the sand waist deep. It's very peaceful and not many people. The only thing I did not like was the odor of cannabis that burned our throats. We will go here again.”

“When I was a kid, you could not go into this sanctuary. For the first time, I took my family inside. We did not realize it at the time, not no bicycles are allowed, there is graffiti over most of the word. It was beautiful though. We walked our bikes and enjoyed the forest. I'm really happy to see this place open again. It's a sanctuary for anyone needing a little nature retreat in Ghent.”
