“Built in 1895, beautifully restored almost 100 years later in 1994, the de Witt Cottage features a large collection of wildfowl decoys, as well as a wide variety of old photographs, newsclips, and antiques. Lower floor free, $2 donation requested for upper gallery, which is accessible via stairlift for those who may have difficulty climbing. Video lecture provides a brief history of the Virginia Beach boardwalk. Great lens back in time for those interested in the area's history. Curator was knowledgeable and gregarious without being pushy. Souvenir postcards 3-for-$1. Gift shop also featured books, art, jewelry, and (of course!) decoys. Purchase came with complimentary reusable state-branded canvas tote. Would recommend checking it out if you're in the area.”

“An awesome tour, chandelier started shaking and no one was moving that made the hair rise on our arms. With 11 known spirits and 1 cat it's possible to have an encounter. Most of the house felt relatively normal but the upstairs bedroom to the left there wasn't a good vibe coming from that room. I'd say definitely worth the tour and if you get an opportunity to stay the night, it'd be once in a lifetime.”

“Very nice place to go and has interactive activities for children. I thought it was a very cute place to go especially for relaxing. It was free for us to go in since the Virginia Beach City pays for this place to stay open and up. It’s a small but good Museum for your day on vacation when you want to relax and just enjoy art and what it offers to your mind. It had different types of art too, painting, prints, sculpture, and videos! All loved and appreciated. They also have a cute gift shop full of books and stickers! Very nice place and would come back again one day in the future.”

“Amazing! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! You can tell they love what they do and are very proud of this museum! One of the best and most interesting places I’ve been to! Unfortunately, I didn’t know you could reserve a ride in one of their restored planes before going, but I guess that just gives me a reason to come back for another visit so I can take to skies! It was amazing to watch the plane take off!”

“So fun! Nikki and Mark were knowledgeable and held the attention of both my 6&12 year old while still giving us the history. They even played a LONG game of Jenga with them! Wonderful place and wonderful people!”

“The Ferry Plantation tour was amazing!! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable on the history of area. My tour guide, Joshua, was especially awesome!! Very thorough in detail and passionate about the history. He made the tour very interesting by giving interesting facts about the lands that you’re not going to find in books. Hands down, one of the best tours I’ve taken on the east coast!!! I highly recommend this tour if you’re visiting.”

“The room was very nice and clean. Location was great. There were a bunch of restaurants within walking distance. The staff was really great -- always friendly and greeting me. One, in particular, is the woman who I think was in charge of breakfast. She would always come around to make sure everything was ok. One morning, there was a gentleman in a wheelchair getting breakfast. She helped prepare his plate and even helped him with his food. I was very impressed by her above and beyond!”

“This was my first time visiting and doing the ghost tour. What an amazing experience!! I brought my own emf meter and was getting so many spikes. The family is definitely still there.”

“Been here 2x with my family and we love this place. It has a beautiful nature walk on the marsh with an amazing exhibit of the otters as part of the Marsh Exhibition. My only gripe is that SOME, not all, of the exhibits are a bit out dated. Regardless every exhibit was still fun and informative. We can't wait to go back again this summer.”

“The building itself is closed, but the property is gorgeous & I still had a great time walking around it. It's a beautiful location & the building is in excellent shape. Very fascinating to see. Original stained glass windows are still intact.”
