“It was a beautiful setting. A few different hiking trails with beautiful scenery as well. They make it fun with little scavenger hunts you can do and all of it is self-paced. You may have to get creative in entertaining yourself if you're trying to stay there for more than an hour to hour and a half as there is not much to do other than the cave and the gift shop. Still worth the trip because the cave was beautiful! I love that they had workers stationed throughout the cave and giving the guests little tidbits of information. Especially the freedom to walk past if you were not interested or to stay and get more insight.”

“My dog's favorite romping ground. Milli goes typically twice a day and during the weekdays it's often the same friendly dogs. It gets a mixed group of unsocialized and disagreeable dogs on the weekends so be aware. Otherwise, it's a large park with two entrances and a good 20 minute loop.”

“Great pool for kids and families. They allow some inflatables. There weren't a lot of them in the pool. Has a slide and diving board. The kiddie pool was closed for some reason though. Not sure why. Kiddie pool is pretty big and they have a lot of toys available for little ones to use.”

“We’ve come to this campground for multiple years and we love it. We are tent campers and the price is great. The bathrooms are clean and so is the pool. The pool is clear and perfect for relaxing or playing with the kids. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We’ll definitely keep coming back here!”

“always enjoyed visiting and buying plants. They had the BEST selection and their retail site is sorely missed. Plants were always in top notch condition and lots of variety. Always enjoyed exploring the retail quonsets and what had been grouped together outside of these quonsets at the entry of the quonsets. Fantastic and wonderful people who worked there.”

“A lesser known state park with great views of Madison named after a remarkable public servant. The park is smaller than others in the state park system, but with its proximity to Madison, it is an easy visit with beautiful trails and stunning views across Lake Mendota. It is a great place for more solitary hikes. The prairie trails offer a casual hike or a run reminiscent of a cross country course. There is great water access available here. A beach with a pavilion, playground and volleyball court. A separate pet swim area. And then the boat launch. Gaylord Nelson was a former governor and United States Senator of Wisconsin and is most famous for founding Earth Day. He was a leading conservationist, consumer advocate and supporter of civil rights and civil liberties. Visit this park for a pleasant few hours spent in nature and honoring someone who brought conservation to the forefront of the national conscience.”

“My favorite spot:) Not many people know about this spot. It’s definitely a hidden gem. I have seen tons of wildlife here, especially birds! If you’re a birder, this is the best spot for shorebirds and sandhill cranes. Go in the morning or evening to see the beautiful sunset or sunrise. The colors over the water are incredible.”

“They've updated this building nicely. There's even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand. I have to say that the views are nice along this waterway area, including from the beach, but the water in Lake Mendota is always gross and mucky along the shores. For those reasons, I only go here to sit and look out; I don't go in the water anymore but many other people still do so I guess you'll have to make that decision for yourself.”

“The tractor and truck pulls were great today. They are a favorite that's for sure.food was great and the weather was near perfect. Bathrooms are clean and handy cap accessable. The firemen did a great job keeping up with cleaning and doing whatever was needed. The bands were doing a super job entering the people with their music and fun all the time they were on stage. Just a great time was had by all.lets do it again soon.. So”

“Salmon Pond and Park is a great small body of water, with plenty of fish, there's good fishing there. Park and Pond both very clean. If you're looking for another fishing spot that's just outside Madison, this is the place. Country views are fantastic.”

“My dog Suki @sukiyakishiba & I love coming here for the beautiful views. The dog friendly area is great to let your dog be off leash. If you decide to take your dog to the rest of the park for a hike, be aware dogs must be leashed. The best time to go is during the week as not many people tend to be there.”

“I drive by here every day and aspire to have a garden like some that I see. Looks like a great place to have a plot! Also, the city takes care of this street and this garden plot and they flatten it out every year like clock work.”

“Great dog park. Well maintained with separate small dog area. Plenty of room and groomed trails. Waste bags and disposal stations are convenient. Prairie restoration areas in center.”

“Have not actually been through the marshland areas or trails, but the area itself is beautiful and it’s a unique and peaceful location. For those of you not aware, this not a regular “park” per se, so don’t plan on bringing kids or planning a recreational trip.”

“Pricier than other campgrounds in the area but great fun for the family. They have a very cute shop with everything you need, are minutes from town, and have nice full-hookup spots. Amenities include a bouncy pillow, swimming pond with giant floating slides, bikes/tricycles for rent, playground, giant chess, and more. Plus, the train for the amusement park comes through in the summer to pick people up to go - there's also a great walking path straight to the amusement park gates!”
