“What an amazing place! Today, we hiked the fire road to the summit and took the Five Oaks Trail back on the way down. The hiking is steep, but very doable, just take your time. Hiking on fire roads is very different than hiking on single-track trails with gentle switchbacks. Stunning views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, desert, and Julian. Parking was pretty easy and free. Check out the awesome public art that graces the wilderness preserve entrance. And, if that's not enough, depending on the time of year, you may pick apples from an orchard right across from the trailhead. Lots to enjoy here.”

“My family and I visited for a few hours. The weather was perfect and the views are beautiful. We came on thursday around 1 pm and there were only a few people in sight which I admit, it was very nice haha. I only gave 4 stars because the bathrooms were closed. Only the portapotties were open. Overall it was a great day.”

“The location is just outside Julian, it’s really nice and has indoor and outdoor seating. We got the Brussels sprouts, vegan loaf and seared ahi salad. The Brussels sprouts were incredible, the vegan loaf was fantastic, the ahi tuna was good but not great. Service was fantastic, I would suggest eating here.”

“What a great little hidden gem. Stumbled across this wonderful little store while visiting Julian for the day back in June. The owner was amazing and helpful and has a wonderful and friendly pup to welcome you. She was more than happy to answer questions for us, was warm, friendly and helpful. What more can you ask for. She custom made several necklaces for us. The gem/bead selections are extensive and the prices and more than fair. Do not visit Julian without stopping in here for a minute to explore all the wonderful things she has to offer. A must return to the next time we are in Julian.”

“I recommend staying at the Apple Tree Inn on you next visit to Julian! The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and the A/C worked great. Easy check-in, you'll receive a text message with the code to access your room key. I also liked that the managers number is included in the text, a big plus just in case you need assistance or have questions! Within walking distance you have food, drinks and music! Have fun :)”

“If you want to do something different from visiting the usual Gaslamp, Little Italy, North Park or going to some of the beaches, this is a great place to visit. Julian it's a beautiful mine town on the side of the mountains in San Diego County, and has to offer many different activities. We found this place in Julian to have lunch it was a great experience overall. The food is good with a homemade touch, which for me is always good because it makes it unique. The place is clean and the service is excellent. I had the pork ribs and were really good, the salad, the fries also good. The dressing apple pecan vinaigrette was delicious to accompany the salad and the berries a la mode with ice cream was outstanding. I recommend this place if you visit Julian, there were other places quite busy, and this one was great and with availability and fluid visitors coming and going.”

“Nice campground. Stayed at sites 46 +49, nice adjoining sites. Facilities are good and well maintained. Showers are 2 min/token, 2 tokens/$1, with a machine outside the showers. Camp fires were allowed while we were there but was told they do ban them based on conditions. Many of the sites toward the back of the campground had steep slopes so be aware. It was VERY buggy, repllent is a must. Squirrels were aggressive and plentiful. State parks employees rounded frequently and enforced rules. We had a great time and will return.”

The buildings and architecture take you back in California history. Check out the buildings along the main streets they are full of history. “Second time I’ve been here. The first time was back in June 2018. I saw a “Stargazing” sign on the way down to a hike and was curious. I really didn’t know what to expect, maybe some constellation searching or something. But it was way more than that. Mike, the owner, is very prestigious astronomer with about 30 years of experience, working with companies like Meade and being consulted by many other organizations. He built a small house with a rolling roof and has very large and expensive telescopes that he uses to show what the night sky hides in the distance. The things you could see with this equipment is mind blowing. It was so good I decided I wanted to go again with my girlfriend and so we set out and we’re once again amazed by everything in store. Truly a great experience and the best thing is that every month the night sky changes so you are bound to see something new every time. Highly recommend !”

“We visited San Diego to be with our grandkids and our daughter-in-law reserved a trail ride for us. My wife and myself are experienced riders and we were impressed by how Luke helped go over things and explained things to everyone in our group. Luke was incredible teacher for the young ones (an old). His personality and information made this event fantastic. The area is beautiful and reminded us of our home area in Idaho. “The pie is delicious with my favorite being the apple berry crumb. Served with ice cream or whipped cream if you like. A better quality ice cream would make it so much better. It seems the slices are smaller and the height of the pie is less. This is still a must when visiting Julian. There are many flavors of pie so you are sure to find one you love.”

“A long time favorite in Julian! They offer a good selection of entrees and just recently started offering breakfast. The pot pie was delicious! While it isn't the prettiest presentation, it has so much flavor! The crust was flaky and they use a brown gravy inside. There were a variety of vegetables and chunks of chicken. The salad was cold, crisp and fresh when served. The ranch dressing was tasted like it may be homemade. All entrees ordered were hearty portion sizes and very filling. The cold cider was my favorite in all of Julian that we tried. The server was friendly and kept our drinks filled.”
