End of the Trail - Picnic Area

Address: Calaveras Fault Trail, San Jose, CA 95127, USA

“Nice trial for hiking. You can see San Jose and Sierra Vista parking lot from this location. I can see my tiny car on Sierra Vista Parking lot which is pretty cool after 2 hours hiking from there. Picture are taken on 8/8/2019. About 30% shade on the trail, but some trail area's grade is >15% which is quite challenging for biking (except e-bike). There is no source of drinking water or restroom in the trail. It is FYI.”

Santa Teresa County Park

Park

“Absolutely amazing county park in the heart of Silicon Valley with a diverse network of trails overseeing the valley and adjoining Santa Teresa Golf Course. This park is incredibly accessible for most San Jose residents via Bernal Road and is a great way to get back to nature and escape the everyday hustle and bustle of city life. The trail up to Coyote Peak is quite challenging but offers those who make it to the top a majestic view all the way to San Francisco on a clear day. One of my favorite Bay Area parks by far.”

Park Campground Lodging

“Super clean bathrooms! Come early to get a parking. We got there about 845am. It is July so the earlier the better. Most trails are well shaded. 6 dollar parking-easier to have exact change. Grab a map or ask for one or save it to your phone ahead of visiting. For July I didn't need to pay for parking in advance and reserve my visit but you should call to be sure. Amazing views! Be aware of the rain season...because we had good rainfall there was plenty of water for most waterfalls to flow in July yet no too much water that trails were blocked!”

Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve

Address: 4289 Casa Loma Rd, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, USA

Park

“Wildlife everywhere, empty trails, wild forests and wide expanses, within 20 min of San Jose? I first discovered this beautiful place with a friend who toured the whole of it with me in pouring rain, but not before we scanned the surrounding view from the top of the ridge. We hiked during the downpour from hastening clouds, and found red salamanders as our colorful beacons on the wet trail. Summer's heat packs a bounty of deer, foxes, and other creatures that inhabit a wonderful range of habitats. Go to the little bridge over the creek just down from the parking lot. A charming place to catch during the winter rains. Astronomy nights here are perfect conditions for exploring galaxies and planets with the greater community's telescopes.”

Plenty of parking and a lot of people taking walks and enjoying wild animals and plant life. It's got an outdoor park and a visitor center too. Both were closed when I went, but I appreciated the ground squirrels and so many birds! It's a great close by escape with nice walking trails. No dogs!”

Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve

Address: 5341 Sierra Rd, San Jose, CA 95132, USA

“Open space on a beautiful mountain. Pretty close to city , only 30mins drive from city center. This place got a great view of the city. Beautiful during night , best place to watch the sun set from across the valley! Pretty cold during cloudy days. Mountain roads are fun to drive! Only challenge is to get some good pics while driving uphill , there is no parking along the way !”
