Shanty Pond Campground

Address: FR 33, Fort McCoy, FL 32134, USA

Campground Lodging Park

“We camped here because Sat Springs was crowded and very open. This is more like back country camping. There is a pit restroom that's not in good condition and rather broken hand pump water. However, we filled our buckets in the nearby gas station and camped fine. There were more than 20 sites but only 2 or 3 were taken. It was truly peaceful and secluded. I'm planning to go there again with larger group.”

“This is REAL FLORIDA camping. Carry your water. CLEAN toilets. No RVs. Beautiful. Beautiful! On a Friday late afternoon, in January, still 5-6 open sites. Great hiking. FL TRAIL, connects to Yearling Trail. Nice hike to Silver Glen Spring for a swim on a warm day. Been camping FL for years. Highly recommend.”

“A nice quiet campground at the end of Hopkins Prarie run by the National Forest. The Florida Trail runs by the edge of the campground, there is a bat house there also with an interpretive sign which is interesting also. There is also free parking for the Florida Trail at the trailhead just outside of the entrance to the campground.”

Juniper Prairie Wilderness Camping access

Address: FR 33, Fort McCoy, FL 32134, USA

“Very serene, bring your own water unless it has been raining as I had trouble finding a source to filter and boil from. All in all I cant wait to come back.”

Juniper Run Take-Out

Address: 4065 FL-19, Fort McCoy, FL 32134, USA

Park

“Central Florida nature at its finest can be found kayaking on Juniper Springs. This 6 mile paddling adventure has beautiful palms and Cypress trees around every turn. The cool, fresh water carries you along and demands that you stay alert as you get buffeted by the current. After a bit over halfway, you'll have an exciting rapid to run through, and then the tree canopy disappears with vistas of tall marshland grasses. Turtles will be found showing off their painted faces and legs, before belly-flopping into the water as you approach. The gators are hidden (mostly), but there's lots of birds and the every so often butterfly. Enjoy a beautiful step back in time.”
