Nice trail, make sure to take enough water.
Cool rock formations and petroglyphs. The shapes and colors are amazing...only mother nature could create something like that.
A short and spectacular hike between tall red rock peaks. Unlike some canyons, the walls are not too steep, and most places it is not too hard or dangerous to scramble up and explore along the side of the trail. It is also a good way to spend time in more solitude, as the trail is narrow and can get crowded. The path is pink or orange sand, and narrows toward the end. The final destination is after a sharp left and contains a pool of water, something not uncommon in the depth of canyons, where the terrain can collect water and is shielded somewhat from the sun. You can scramble up the rock to the left of the pool for an amazing view.
If you continue straight, instead of taking a left to the pool, you will get to a less trafficked end of the canyon, which seems even more shielded and collects moisture in the sand. Like other canyon areas, it gets a little greener than the open desert, even having patches of grass here and there. The petroglyphs are mostly high up, and aren't too hard to see if you are looking for them. I saw a few lower down, but I always wonder about their authenticity, as people come along and scratch stuff into the rock for fun. One interesting one high on the rock was of what looked like a family holding hands. Others include what look like goat, lizard, and water.
This trail has a maze of caves along the sides to explore, you won't want to stay on the path!
Have hiked this trail several times, most recently in November 2018. Something about the light seemed to make the petroglyphs stand out more. Also, encountered a group of sheep, so way too many photos of them!
