“History is not there for us to like or not, it's there for us to learn from... I understand the sand will brush off, the salt will wash away, the tan will fade, but the memories will last a lifetime. So I take more pictures of us documenting our life and saving the memories. 1 hr & 15 mins from Henderson if taking Northshore Road via Lake Mead. 4wd advisable but our 2wd made it?! Warning: Do not go when rain is expected. Keep right at St.Thomas Road - start of 3.3 miles dirt road - park at designated lot and hike down for 1 mile to reach the start of the St. Thomas Loop Trail. Enjoy the trail of Nevada's many ghost towns that was abandoned when Lake Mead first filled up in the 1930.”

“Fun little museum to beat the heat! $6 pp and it says military is free at the front desk but when I asked the attendant he said actually no it's not, so not sure about military discount but that's ok I'm happy to support the museum. Small museum but good amount of artifacts and the a/c feels really great at 2pm in June! The reconstructed buildings outside are cool to see how they may have looked. Also cool is that they have shaded kennels for your pets, as well as a gazebo type thing with grills but I'm not sure if the public is allowed to use them.”

“A very special place! Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Reservation process over the phone is very easy. Washrooms are clean. Our spot looked over the reservoir at Lake Mead. Full hook up and cable available. Staff met us, even though we arrived later in the day, to escort us to our space. Nice touch. The view was spectacular!”

“Short hike without much elevation change. Very much doable by people of all ages. Plenty of parking at available at all times. The views at the end of the hike were beautiful but nothing crazy. Surely there are better hikes in the park.”

“Beautiful as always. The different colors are amazing. As you meander along driving through the Lake Mead National Recreation Center, definitely stop for a while at the Redstone Trailhead and look around!”

“Really cool picnic and rest area. Not the most rigorous hiking out here, but plenty to see if you keep you eyes open. Clean restrooms, picnic tables, and informative signs right off of the parking lot.”

“It was a bit smaller than I thought, nothing fancy, but it was still a nice visitor's center. What I found really fascinating was the gift shop. They had crickets and worms for people to eat!! I had actually heard something about certain villages in Africa eating crickets as a delicacy, but I'd never seen that in person. I was too chicken to try them but maybe I will on the next visit.”

“It's a quite small balanced the rock. The view is okay. The view from the trail is that impressive. Might get a better view from the road”
Address: Petroglyph Canyon Trail, Overton, NV 89040, USA
“A short and spectacular hike between tall red rock peaks. Unlike some canyons, the walls are not too steep, and most places it is not too hard or dangerous to scramble up and explore along the side of the trail. It is also a good way to spend time in more solitude, as the trail is narrow and can get crowded. The path is pink or orange sand, and narrows toward the end. The final destination is after a sharp left and contains a pool of water, something not uncommon in the depth of canyons, where the terrain can collect water and is shielded somewhat from the sun. You can scramble up the rock to the left of the pool for an amazing view. If you continue straight, instead of taking a left to the pool, you will get to a less trafficked end of the canyon, which seems even more shielded and collects moisture in the sand. Like other canyon areas, it gets a little greener than the open desert, even having patches of grass here and there. The petroglyphs are mostly high up, and aren't too hard to see if you are looking for them. I saw a few lower down, but I always wonder about their authenticity, as people come along and scratch stuff into the rock for fun. One interesting one high on the rock was of what looked like a family holding hands. Others include what look like goat, lizard, and water.”

“This is an incredible dream-like landscape through the colored rock and the desert. The beauty of the hike is just as treasured as the final destination, and its surreal, multi-hued, wavy rock formations. Not a terrible difficult hike, but you will get some good exercise. Amazing vistas all around. It is easy to wander off the path, but cairns keep you mostly following the right way.”
Address: Mouse's Tank Rd, Overton, NV 89040, USA
“About 4 total parking spots here. This trail is a scramble especially just after a rain. It doesn't matter which side you start on of the wash, you can make a loop out of this. It intercepts the Fire Wave trail but the colors are far better here. We're full time RVr's focused on hiking. Blog link in my bio.”

“The Valley of Fire Park is amazing. The roads and trails are well maintained and easy to navigate. If your looking for some amazing views and awesome rock formations this is the place to visit. The price to drive in and around the park is 10$ per car. The trails are easy to manage and you can take your dog on most of them. Just be sure to bring lots of water and snacks as they don't have any available at the park. I would recommend taking some food and having a nice picnic on the rocks. There are plenty of awesome little places to explore. Well worth the small drive there!”
Address: Anniversary Mine Rd, Overton, NV 89040, USA
“One of the best slot canyons in the West. Kind of hard to find. Good directions will get you here, and a high clearance vehicle can help. The canyon is long, and amazing looking. It is outside an active mine though, so know that private property restrictions could keep you out at times. Watch for rain clouds. You do not want to be caught in a flash flood in this place.”
Address: Narrows, Overton, NV 89040, USA
“27 May 2019, no need to worry about the No Trespassing signs or fence, a recent flash flood wiped it all away and the canyon is wide open. Beautiful quick hike of only 2mi from parking spot, through Narrows and back.”
