“I have to write this review because I've been to almost every soul food restuarant in Detroit and I have to say that ever since my co-worker invited me out to Jay's for breakfast I always wanted to go back and I haven't stopped going. Jay's does Soul Food right. They have a variety of menu items that are mouth watering and the food keeps you going back for more. “I debated whether to give 4 stars or 5, then it struck me: I have an expectation. I've been coming to Pappas since it opened in 1981, and have come to expect an extremely high standard of food and service. Food recipes are still top notch, worthy of consideration for Michelin star ratings (if none have been awarded). Of course they consider all aspect of the experience, including ambiance. One of my draws is the noise levels, feels like a party, sort of. When I was young, this was the place waiters wanted to come because the pay would be fantastic. Not sure if it still is, but little things like drink orders quickly taken and delivered, teams making sure waters were refilled as a section. Unfortunately, this last part isn't the same now. Could have been because there was a trainer showing a trainee the ropes, but that attention to detail has always been part of my expectations. Wasn't the only thing, but when I realized I was fussy, it was because I had such high, high expectations for excellence. No one can maintain that level forever. Still great food and pretty darn good service too. Still worth 5 stars, even from someone whose fussy, like me.”

“If you want a true taste of Louisiana spicy chicken, you'll find it here. Just as good as Popeyes, and better, and for a much lower price. I got the daily special with two pieces dark meat, two piece of catfish, green beans, roll, and drink for around $8. Their Cajun sauce is out-of-this-world! Absolutely loved it.”

“Happened to come in on opening day didn't realize it was opening day, and they did a great job. Ordered a trio with fries and like others have said $16 is a bit much, but the food quality was excellent. I love the ability to get a lamb burger along with other types of beef burgers. The concept of ordering sliders is pretty cool, and I really like the fries which are more like thick potato chips. I will definitely come back!”

“We came here for our lunch but it wasn’t crowded at all. My colleague told me that it would be very busy during dinner time. I ordered lunch fajitas with beef. The beef was salty at first but when I used with rice, sour cream and salsa, it tasted delicious. Our waiter was friendly and nice. The price is average. I think we’re gonna come back for sure.”

Not only can you buy just the bread to go and bring it home to make your own but all three times I was pregnant I the second two times after going to Schlotzsky's and ordering then large original I knew I was pregnant all three times that's how much I love Schlotzsky's so if you haven't been you must go like I said you can buy the bread to take home and make her own it makes awesome garlic bread I can give you that much on that one way2go Schlotzsky's no more kids for me by the way LOL I got a hysterectomy I got as many babies as I wanted .... ????????????????????”
