Devil's Lake State Park

Address: S5975 Park Rd, Baraboo, WI 53913, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Fantastic views, but prepare for crowds. We hiked the trail to Balanced Rock, Devils Doorway, and Pothole trail. Wonderful views but a difficult hike for many people. The beach areas were well maintained and the lake of gorgeous. We arrived about noon on a Friday and several parking lots were full. I can't imagine what it would be like on a Saturday. The bathrooms at the beach area were acceptable, but needed cleaning. This park is definitely worth a visit, but I would avoid the weekends.”

Pan Hollow State Natural Area

Address: Freedom Rd, North Freedom, WI 53951, USA

Park

“Spotted our first blue bird of spring in the hollow. This area is not as accessible or as well marked as many of the other SNA in the Baraboo hills. We went in from the Hilltop Road Side, pulling off on to the shoulder by an old field road.”

Pine Hollow State Natural Area

Address: North Freedom, WI 53951, USA

Park

“Parking lot easily found by the old silo nearby. Both when parking and upon returning. The beginning is an ant utopia, I've never seen so many thriving anthills before. Once you veer off path at the larger lake and go downhill to find the rock outcroppings and tiny water fall / streams , it's so worth the trip. Absolutely beautiful. Expectat at least an hour or better 2-3 here.”

Hemlock Draw

Address: Schara Rd, North Freedom, WI 53951, USA

Park

“This is a good-sized SNA with several access points. For the 2.2-mile loop trail, the best parking and trail access are at the end of Buckfever Dr off of Schara Rd. The parking area has room for many vehicles although Buckfever is mostly 1-vehicle wide for 2-way traffic. The out&back trail with stream crossings is accessed from Reich Dr with very limited side-of-road parking. For GPS owners, a POI file for all WI SNAs parking areas can be downloaded free from the POI Factory.”

Skillet Creek Campground

Address: E11329 State Rd 136, Baraboo, WI 53913, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“We’ve tent camped here several times each year since 2020. Even after change of ownership, it’s always been a great experience for us. We enjoy being away from the busy state park to sleep. We’ve been there in July, August, September, October. The fall foliage when visiting in October is breathtaking at this campground. Bathrooms are always super clean, good hot showers. The only time we had an issue was with some noisy neighbors up until 4am being so loud. We understand that is okay until quiet hours and gave them some grace until closer to midnight, but we ended up hollering at them from our tent a couple of different times in early morning hours. Looking back we should have called the owner! Usually a very busy campground but always pleasant experience.”

The cabin was very clean along with the campground, so much for the kids to do ! They especially loved the swim pond and park . My youngest grandson cried when we had to go home. Everyone that works there are so friendly and welcoming. Our trip to this wonderful campground is always a great time !!!”

Dell Pines Campground

“My family and I LOVED camping here. The campground itself is absolutely beautiful with all of its tall pine trees. We all enjoyed the pool, mini golf and playground area. We visited the campground store often for snacks and souvenirs for the kids. The showers were probably the most well kept I’ve ever experienced in a campground. The location was perfect. Only a few minutes away from all of the Dells attractions as well as Mirror Lake and Devils Lake State Parks. Highly recommend!”

Pewit's Nest

Address: County Rd W, Baraboo, WI 53913, USA

Park

“This is a lovely park; however, it is small, especially if you obey the restricted path signs. Ignoring those signs, you can get in about a 1.25-mile hike. The paths are only well maintained on the primary-way but there are some additional less maintained ones that have an interesting perspective. If you are driving from Madison, chain this with some other park such as Natural Bridge State Park to make it worthwhile.”

East Bluff State Natural Area

Address: Pvt Interior Rd, Merrimac, WI 53561, USA

“Usually hike Devils Lake area a dozen times or more a year in preparation for climbing in Colorado. Pretty decent ascents up the East and West bluffs with some bouldering should you want to take a more direct route up. Beautiful views of the lake and surrounding area, especially in the fall when the colors are changing. Make sure you get a park pass if you plan on parking at the Iceage trail parking lots on the perimeter of the park because you will get a $50 dollar ticket.”

Sauk County Fairgrounds

Address: 700 Washington Ave, Baraboo, WI 53913, USA

“We visited a car show. Had collectible miniatures for sale inside. Food available for purchase. Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating. Rain would start, stop, start, stop, etc. Still had a pretty good time.”

Natural Bridge State Park

Address: E7792 Co Rd PF, North Freedom, WI 53951, USA

Park

“Such a cool spot with overlooked or under appreciated history! The hike to bridge maybe takes 10 minutes, slight uphill climb but super manageable for most people! The rock formation is super impressive. It’s a amount of cluster of outcrops and small bluffs, and the main loop takes you by most of them in the small valley. Indigenous peoples inhabited the area some 10,000 years ago and continued to for thousands of years! Just one hour from Madison, another amazing Wisconsin hike!!”

Green Valley Campground

Address: S5927 Oak Ct, Baraboo, WI 53913, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“It was very easy-to-use and a nice place. We attempted to call and make a reservation and it proved to not be needed. We really enjoyed our overnight. Clean toilet house. No showers or bath sinks - drinking water available at eating pavilion and "RV" sites. Would definitely stay again!!!”
