“We love this library. They really care about their patrons. They work hard to make summer reading fun for all the kids in the area, and put on such an awesome end of summer celebration. They’re very kind here, and they be answered any questions we asked them. The space is very nice and they have a variety of resources available. The collection is also large and great for a variety of audiences. It’s a very inviting space. I think a lot of people need to know that libraries are no longer the quiet spaces where you get shushed by a spectacled old lady. They’re more of a center of the community and people should feel a sense of community which will mean they talk and laugh and enjoy the space. There is a nice little quiet room for those who need it.”

“This is a small gem of a library, tucked away from the through travel routes so that it takes a bit of a detour to visit if you're not a local. Architecturally it's pretty much your standard-issue small rural public library, but when you realize that this 2500 square-foot building replaced a former library about the size of Thoreau's cabin after the community pulled together to help fund it in the 1980s-90s, it becomes more impressive. (The old building was moved to the new library site from its original location and now serves to house the weekly Friends of the Library book sales.) There's a ramada surrounded by a native-plant garden with great views of the Cuyamaca Mountains, there's free wi-fi if you need it, and judging from how busy it was the last time I stayed in Descanso, it's doing a good job of serving its consituents.”

“SJPL is generally a great library system, and this branch, in particular, is really amazing. You can, of course, order items from throughout the system. Given that context, I think their in-branch selection makes a ton of sense and is very space-efficient. They certainly do have a large selection of English-language items, but they also have lots of Vietnanese, Spanish, and Chinese catering to the local population. They also have a large kid selection, as well as dedicated toys, play areas, and touch screens for using the provided ABCmouse membership. I really like that they have a variety of computer stations for different needs. They offer a lot of community services like events, training, etc. My only gripe is that the last time I went, the computers were cutting out every half hour or so, forcing people to log back in. It was pretty annoying, but I'm hoping that's not normal and can be addressed.”

“I went here from fresh out of high school from 2016-2019 and graduated there with my associates. Such a Beautiful campus and I had a very great experience at DCCC, I’ve had some pretty good professors during my time there although some did seem to only be there for a check. During my time here I was also in the KEYS program and they have such wonderful staff very helpful and friendly. They have a nice library and the food in the cafeteria is really good too.”

An added bonus is that there's a network of trails through a wooded area, as well as a small prairie behind the dog park, near their parking lot. There's a wide variety of plants scattered throughout the trails. Check out some plant i.d. books and go on an adventure!”

“The new remodel makes the library look more updated and it looks really nice inside. I like to use the community rooms for an even more quieter area for studying. Staff are always very helpful and attentive! I am able to find what I need and love that I'm able to get books sent to the library to be picked up so I don't have to drive to another library; it is very convenient for me. I This library offers awesome programs and crafts for families. I really like when they do crafting nights. Great place to take your kids!”
