“Old Fort Johnson was the residence of Sir William Johnson, an Irish pioneer who became an influential British Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Johnson was a very important colonist who did much to build the future United States even though he was working for the British. Built in 1749 the three story Georgian style house is made of limestone and sits near the banks of the Mohawk River. The house is also home to the Montgomery County Historical Society. Tours of the inside of the house are given and they are educational and informative. Much of the furniture and furnishings in the house are original to it. The layout of the house is also as historically accurate as possible. Originally, the house was essentially part of a larger fort. They have a nice display as to what the fort would've looked like and they have a gunport built into the house. Outside of the house it is easy to admire the gardens, and the steam that runs down to the Mohawk. Interestingly enough there is also a privy outside, which is believed to be one of the oldest intact one’s in the US. There is Mixed into the house are displays of Native American artifacts and Mohawk Valley history. Some of the interesting displays that can be seen are Nicholas Herkimer’s rifle and a chair that was saved from a house in the Cherry Valley Massacre in 1778. On the third floor of the home unique artifacts from Montgomery County’s history are displayed. One of the most interesting artifacts they have is a Mohawk canoe that could be 500 or more years old. There is also a small collection of carriages to be seen here. On the tour I was informed that there would be some work on the roof of Old Fort Johnson being completed this year. Check the website or call ahead for the hours that tours are given. A small admission price is charged. There is a small, but nice gift shop located here. This is a great place to learn about Sir William Johnson and the history of the Mohawk Valley.”

“We had the opportunity to take my parents here today and it was more than we expected. The look on my Dad’s face when we went there was priceless. The location was bigger than we thought. The detail in the museum was unbelievable. It’s a great trip for any train enthusiast. The owners were super nice and very accommodating.”

“My grandson and I were impressed with the amount of selections that were priced so that even a 12 year old young man's allowance was sufficient for gift giving. We were rushed through the gallery because we arrived only 15 minutes prior to closing, but we will return again for several gifts that my grandson is still talking about for birthday gifts.”

“It's a hidden gem if you want to learn about a key piece of Phoenix history which we now see today in the form of the MetroRail. The museum has some street parking outside, or you could park on Fillmore St (easier to park there). They have an accessible ramp to get to the entrance. Inside, there's two small rooms with interpretive signs. They also have some old trolley artifacts. The employees working there are super knowledge and friendly. Don't forget to check the area in the back. They have a trolley that you can go in and they demo the car to you. There's also two other train cars they're working on restoring.”

“Really lovely look into the early life of Edward Hopper. Simple, small museum with insights into his family, his bedroom, and views of Nyack. I enjoyed the afternoon light through his bedroom window, and the photos that compare the buildings in his paintings with how they look today. As a big fan of the artist i am very pleased with this little museum. The staff was also great.”

“Went on a road trip and had the pleasure of visiting this place!!! What a great time! My boyfriend loved it!!! Learned a lot of very interesting facts about helmets and the progression of safety. It was super interesting!! The guy giving the demonstration was awesome!!! There were so many people working there full of football facts!! There is a fellow from England, I think, and he was hanging in the hall of heads. He is chock full of facts about the players. So great chatting with him! Had lunch in the cafe, great meal!!! So reasonably priced too!! We had a really wonderful time!!”

“Everything in the home was stunning! It's a gift that places like this have been preserved for future generations to see and experience. I only wish more were saved and restored. The staff or volunteers, I'm not sure which they are, were all very nice and knowledgeable in general. My only issues are: cash only (not expensive, $5 each, but we were traveling and didn't have cash on us, which meant we had to leave & find an ATM), limited hours, and it's a guided tour that feels rushed. It felt like we couldn't truly look around and take everything in, before being shuffled to the next room. Once we reached the end of the tour, it felt even more rushed, and they were hurrying to get the door locked behind us as we left. Overall, it was still a good experience and I would recommend it to others.”

“I am a member of the club.. It consists of a group of men and women who love everything railroad. This is how they spend their free time, repairing restoring and relaxing to the sounds of passing freight trains. Bring the kids down and have a hands on experience with the rolling stock.and see the old station and the hard work being done to restore it. Learn about rail saftey and teach the kids to respect the rails..”

“I recently completed several days at the museum researching the history of the oil industry in Florence. The depth of Florence's rich industrial history was everywhere on display and far exceeded what I had anticipated. The staff's organization of research materials, maps, photographs and newspaper articles - by surname, business name, and address - allowed me to quickly find materials of interest. The museum staff - Gayle, Marty, Skip and others - made me feel welcome from start to finish, and I left with a deep appreciation for this valuable resource. The museum is well worth a visit - and your support. You won't be disappointed!!”

“10/10 recommend. Our first time in Texas didn’t disappoint. What a great and spooky way to spend Halloween. I can’t imagine the amount of work that was put into this. It definitely showed that you all truly enjoy Halloween and that you want everyone to enjoy it as well.”

“A genuine historical, informative, and up close view of the Hatfield and McCoy feud. This museum provides not only an in-depth look into the lineage of each family by providing physical items such as documents, some of with are legal, some of which are personal, such as letters, other items include but are not limited to, guns, knives, clothing and accessories. This museum provides more pictures than one could ask for. Last but not least, the most important aspect of the museum is the people running the facility. The people are genuine and knowledgeable. Worth the trip!”

“We had a lovely time today. There are at least 4 miles of well-maintained trails. The visitor center was open and available for a self-guided tour. Both restrooms and water fountains are available. The entry fee is $3 and cash only, and there is plenty of parking. The park ranger provided us with maps, so we had no problem finding the historic fort site. We didn't see much wildlife apart from an armadillo, birds, and squirrels. However, the trails were very quiet and peaceful, and the wildflowers were lovely. I would not recommend these trails for people with wheel chairs or strollers.”

“Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the "Lincoln Highway Experience." I can't believe how nice the facility is and how many times I have driven by without even knowing how great of an experience it would be. There is so much history that I did not know nor did I know that it runs from coast to coast AND is the oldest coast to coast highway. You will enjoy a mix of old and new. The modern section is filled with replicas of the old sites along the highway. Also in the new section there is a Serros Diner replica where you receive a complimentary piece of pie and coffee included with admission. I recommend visiting if you are out of town and especially if you are local. Stop driving by everyday like I did, I really think you will be impressed and definitely learn a lot. Adults $15, Seniors/Veterans/First Responders $12, Under 5 Free. The tour is self guided with a provided listening device. The sections are numbered and everything is at your own pace. I recommend beginning each section at the same time if you are with others. Special thanks to Greeter Stephanie C. and Danette at Serro’s Diner for making the visit special. There is a short video (under 15 minutes) called "Through the Windshield," which tells the story and is well worth watching. I found "Through the Windshield," on YouTube which provides a glimpse into the rich history behind the Lincoln Highway, see link below. https://youtu.be/z_TRYEARc-4?si=QdHQk7gbmboju7mJ”

“The museum is small, but interesting. The governor’s mansion was interesting as well. There was no docent available in the mansion for questions on the day we went and only one staff member that I saw in the museum. This was a stop-over on the way to the Pawnee Bill Ranch and it was a nice little detour. It’s a neat stop if you are interested in Oklahoma history.”

“I received a tour this afternoon by Duncan who was extremely knowledgeable and generous to take over an hour to give me a tour of the place and answer all my questions. He was an expert on the house and has clearly put a lot of work into curating the museum. I really enjoyed learning about many objects and the home’s history-there are so many cool things to learn and artifacts to see over a 200-year history. The grounds are beautiful in the middle of a busting midtown neighborhood. I was told a tornado did some damage to the gutters/soffit that will soon be repaired!”

“Bartram is a lovely Garden with a trail located along the St. John's river. You will learn about William Bartram who was a scholar and traveler and see it through his eyes. The garden and trail are well marked with signage telling you about Mr. Bartram and the plant material. The trail is flat, quick and very easy. Pets are allowed on a leash. There is a area for fishing along the pier and shore. You can even launch your canoe or kayak. Parking is easy. The views are beautiful especially from the overlook. There are no fees and it's open from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. Park is located by the Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center.”

“I’ve been here twice, both w friends. To get here, you can even search for “Getty Center Parking” on your maps app. Parking costs $25, but it’s $15 after 3:00 PM. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance. You’re allowed in within one hour of your designated time. Give yourself some time to get to the center; you’ll need to parking in a giant multi-floor garage where spaces are rather small (note the code for your area), and then take an elevator to the security line for the tram. There are bathrooms in this area and it’s open air. You can even see a nice sculpture here. You’re allowed to pack a little picnic and food items, even though there are at least 2 places where they sell food and drink inside. Some people have a little picnic on the greens, near the garden, where the grass lawn is perfect. Then, the tram comes every so often and shows you a great little panoramic view of LA and its hills. It’s very clean and has shaded windows. The main entrance has some stairs. Not sure about accessibility here. Then there are several buildings where you can see the art collections. There are elevators indoors and also map guides in multiple languages, including Spanish and Chinese. There’s also a Getty store when you first get inside. The botanical garden is wonderful / my fave, and the sculpture garden and catcus garden are also great. You could easily spend a day here wandering through everything. There are fountains and pools, and the garden has a little winding labryinth and all kinds of amazing blooms and rest areas. Getty has a villa in a separate location. The Getty Center can also be reached by public transportation. I’ll be back for sure. This is the perfect place to take new visitors to LA.”

“A fun place with lots of interesting things to look at. Fun for little kids to see the neat things and for old kids and adults actually interested in reading the information about the items. I wouldn't plan this place alone for a full day because we got through it pretty quick even being on a school field trip. Gift shop was a little pricey but that was to be expected from my experiences with gift shops. Definitely recommend for any Dino lovers.”

“They had an open house this past weekend and the place is beautiful. It has a lot of room and a good parking lot nearby. The location is really good too. From the train station, you are across the street from the Railway Cafe in one direction and the post office and Bassett Corporate Headquarters in the other. I can see where this would be a good venue for corporate events and weddings.”
