“I've gone to Emerald Bay multiple years with my sons and their boy scout troop. What a great experience! The staff, facilities and food ("Fruit Punch! Haven't had it? Haven't lived.") are great, but the best part was the focus on living the scout law and extra opportunities than just the merit badge classes. Our troop has loved the values game and the pirate program over the years. We have several "Brigands" and even a couple "Anchormen" now. Also "Ranger Sean!" He remembered our boys by name over several years. If he's not careful he will end up as chief scout executive. Four stars only for two reasons. Difficult to get to and the cost has been prohibitive for some of our scouts. We want all our boys, even the disadvantaged ones, to have these experiences. All our scouts want to keep going back and I understand why. Great job Camp Emerald Bay!”

“Nice little park with barbecue area, tables, stage, playground, and bathrooms. Not much open space, but it does have a little grassy area. Right off the main road so traffic often going by.”

“Catalina such a beautiful place in California. The north end of the island where Starlight Beach is, is windswept and magical. The color of the water so astounding. So clear. Great snorkeling and hiking. It’s an easy day trip from the South Bay if the water is calm.”

“Loved the garden and the Memorial Building. It's a good walk through the garden and up to the memorial building. Beautiful view of the ocean from the memorial building. Only thing that left me wondering was... what was the Memorial building used for? Was it ever used for anything? There is no sign that explains that information.”

“The "walk" from town to the gates is in fact a 1.5 hike up hill but once you get to the gates is an amazing walk with a view that makes it worth the hike. So much information on the area is present in such an amazing way. highly recomend this to anyone!”

“The trail attached to the campground is an amazing hike! Very beautiful views of the island. At the top, you can see both sides. Not for the beginners but not fully intermediate either. Heading out by 10am ish and you will get in the mountain shade for roughy 30-40% of the hike. Nice for the warm days. No boulders or benches to sit and rest if needed, will need to set on the ground or side of the hill. Adventure suggestion: Walk from town to the trail head or take the bus for about $2. Hike about a quarter of a mile past the 2mile marker and on the left there is a nice spot to sit, meditate an take in the sights. Then make your way to the top of the trail and there is no benches but a shaded stone wall to sit and eat some lunch. Take it all in, it’s beautiful up there. Then take the road to the left will lead you to another split, stay left. This will take you through the Garden to Sky hike and out of the gardens dropping you off at the bus stop.”

“It is one heck of a walk up, but this is by far the most amazing view on the island. You can see both sides. If it's clear enough, you can even see Avalon on the backdrop of the mainland. Getting here is a trek, but it is well worth it for those who can make it.”

“Spectacular views! I went all the way looking for a tree but didn't find any. I was kind of hoping to see a giant tree in semi arid geographical location and then it dawned to me that probably you are supposed to be the lone tree staring at the vastness or ocean around you.”

“Parsons Landing is a crazy pretty place to camp. There's pretty much nothing here - just fox boxes, clean pit toilets and fire pits. You can pay to have water and firewood delivered to your site which you should do. Previous campers have made wind shelters out of rocks at every campsite for your fire or to pitch your tent behind. If there's an earthquake you're probably gonna suffer a brain injury but what can you do?”

“This was the best Boy Scout camp my boys went to. The staff was amazing, which is not surprising - I think they have their pick of employees. If you're planning to spend the summer working at a Boy Scout Camp, why would you not choose to do it on Catalina Island? The weather was beautiful, the facilities were slightly better than the other camps, and the range of merit badges was great. This is obviously a good place to work on the water-related badges. The sailing badge, in particular, was a good one to do here. We were there on a pretty windy week, so the kids had a blast with the sailboats. The overnight "war canoe" trip to Parson's Beach was amazing, and the older scouts really enjoyed the Rugged "E" program. Highly recommended.”

“I work there and we work really hard to make the experience something the kids will remember and the programs have a staff that is just awesome! Whether it's Scouting or CEMI, it's a great and safe place for the kids to come and learn something about life, the ocean, and even themselves! :)”

“This Campground was a dream! The grounds have Porta-Potty bathrooms near each section and there is a grill over the fire pits for each camp site as well as a secure metal box to keep food locked and protected from animals. Bison cross through here as well as deer which is beautiful and amazing to see! The communication about what is available was the reason I put 4 stars instead of 5. I had never been to Catalina before much less to this campsite. Myself as well as to others from my party called the office to ask questions about the availability of renting equipment as well as renting a stove and getting firewood Etc we were told that we could rent different things on site. However, when we arrived and went to the trailer to talk with the ranger, he apologized profusely saying that the only thing we are able to get there is the bundles of firewood. He was so apologetic over the miscommunication that he gave us his personal stove and Propane for us to use. I would definitely Camp here again and just know I know what is available and what is not. Bring all of your own stuff and if you need anything you can call ahead and let them know, and pay over the phone and they will deliver it to your campsite before you get there. The only thing that you can purchase on site is the firewood bundles. The water is so clear it's amazing and beautiful. I kept thinking I was in a different country! There's so many different hiking options beautiful! I'm definitely looking forward to visiting again!”
