“This is a Charming little bed and breakfast, hidden at the intersection of Market, Church, and 14th Streets. It's barely visible from the street, a single orange door is the entrance. A long stairway leaves you up into the building, which has rooms on the second and third floor. It's a converted old hotel, but it's very clean and cozy. I stayed in a single room with a double bed, it just had a bed, sink, TV and closet. I just needed a place to crash for my stay so it was perfectly acceptable, clean and quiet. Showers and water closets are across the hall, all clean and nicely appointed. And breakfast is served in the kitchen every morning. A nice collection of granolas, fresh fruit, tea, and bread. When I called ahead to tell them that I might be arriving early, they assured me my room was already ready, and I felt very welcomed. Public transit is literally right outside the door. I highly recommend this place as a good spot to crash when you're visiting the city.”

“Great rooms very cozy on the smaller size but with an old building and that location that’s expected. Bathrooms are updated and i loved them personally. Cute boutique hotel in a GREAT area your 3 miles from anything in any direction…union square area is awesome and near many stores and China town and north beach is within walking distance. Good police presence in the area also the staff downstairs is very friendly and the continental breakfast in the 2nd floor was good and better then i expected for a small space…will most def be staying here again next time I’m in the bay….i 100% recommend it and the beds were very comfy also!”

“One of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Great rooms and excellent location in the nicest residential area of SF. Continental breakfast had a wide variety of options including healthy smoothies and fresh juice shots. Wine/beer reception each day was fantastic with a variety of options, and included food. Staff/service was excellent.”

“Front desk staff were rude and called my husband a liar which I felt was very unprofessional. Rooms are nice with fridge and microwave. Cleaning staff were nice and friendly. Parking you can only park one vehicle and if you are in a single bed room you are not allowed to have more than 2 people in it. Not even to visit they will access your guess of staying over night and charge you for it. But it was a decent hotel. Other than the guy at the front desk I liked the place. It's not a fancy place so I wouldn't suggest it as a vacation hotel.”

“I stayed in the Monet room at Harper House for 3 months over the summer while carrying out a research stay at UCSF. It was the perfect base for me, I enjoyed the proximity to the Golden Gate park, shops on Haight street, the bike path "the wiggle", UCSF shuttle buses from Parnassus, and the N-line going into the city centre. The room is very quiet, facing an interior yard, and the bed is super comfy. I had everything I needed with the kitchenette and my own bathroom. I also really enjoyed relaxing on the terrace and in the yard. The owners, Ted and Leah, made me feel at home right from the beginning, were really accomodating, and gave me so many great recommendations for exploring the city. Highly recommend!”

“This hotel was really great! It’s right by Union Square, which is a really great location. The hotel itself was very nice and accommodating. The room wasn’t huge, but it’s a really nice place to stay, and it was very clean. The staff was super friendly, and they put out complementary cookies, coffee, and popcorn for the guests. They also give you a buy one get one free coupon for the bar in the lobby, which was really nice to relax and meet some of the other guests. The bartender was also super friendly. Overall, I had a great night stay at the Chancellor Hotel and would definitely go back!”

“Excellent desk staff. Room was ok. Comforters need to be cleaned more often in general and this hotel is no exception as the bedding doesn't smell fresh.”

“The property is no longer a hotel, rather it is currently an SRO community. Plenty of formerly homeless people (myself included) now call it "home". The facilities are adequate, although the laundry room has poor ventilation so drying is problematic, in addition to users leaving their "items" for days in the machines. But there are several alternative laundry facilities in the area. The rents are marginally affordable if you're on a fixed income or low income worker. The elevator is in "working" condition although it bounces when stopping at a floor often, a bit unnerving for some. The only real concern is the surly noisy people who camp on the sidewalks on both sides of Eddy Street, as there are plenty of extruded leavings despite the public toilets nearby (even though there is plenty of free newspapers to poo upon) some folks apparently care less. And the scavenged garbage is strewn all over the place from trash bins daily that you have to get used to it. The Tenderloin Neighborhood Street Cleaners have 2 pressure wash trucks of their own but you hardly ever see them in use. Some of the "street cleaners" are selective of what they can or will pick up though. On my floor, there is a resident that seems to enjoy leaving excrement in the halls, as if they are intentionally waiting till the last second. There are portable toilets available, and if you can't afford one, you can always keep a jar, for peeing, and plastic bags or newspapers for pooping in. Sighs.”

“Clean, spacious, comfortable. Keep it this way please! My favourite hotel this holiday and this year so far!!! The restaurant at the hotel was also great. Nice salads, tea. The bed is clean and comfortable, clean floor, bathroom. Just great it has not always been this case in some other hotels. The employees are doing their job web and the managers too! Thank you.”

“This place rides a fine line between hotel and hostel. Rooms are decent, and have their own sink. Has communal bathrooms, but requires some thick skin to use (can be filthy at times). Hotel is in a pretty dumpy part of town, but the prices are hard to beat.”
