“Walked almost all the trails this morning. Lovely 3+ miles. Unfortunately not at all accessible, as trails are dirt and the wooded trails are very heavily covered with roots and divots, but easily navigated by folks without mobility issues. Well marked and lovely to look at. Parking was very full when we left at about 12:15 so recommend going earlier in the mornings if possible for you.”

“Wonderful natural area!!! Opened in the fall of 2022 this is a well planned, well thought out and maintained natural area that was probably once a Pope family farm. My wife and I have been to almost every park and recreational area (with our dogs) in Orange county, but this is a stand out!! It is one of the best places for a quiet, peaceful, easy hike with the dogs. Open fields, pond, old barns, cemetery, woods and graveled road, all well marked, not muddy or hilly. Not to mention, a port-o-John and garbage can! Many other trails in the area have narrow, rooted, technically difficult paths, NOT HERE! There is a map (take a photo of it) and post card at the visitors barn. Well done owner and volunteers!! And thank you for preserving this wonderful piece of nature. We will be frequent visitors. If you bring your dogs, please pick up after them and be careful they don’t eat coyote poop!”

“One of my two favorite birding hot spots in Orange County, NC. This is a nice 2.0+ mile walk through varied habitats including mature and second growth riparian woodland and old fields. The birding is great at any time of year.”

“A beautiful trail, even in the winter months. There’s plenty of wildlife, the riverfront is peaceful, and the suspension bridge is fun to walk across. Even for myself who’s afraid of heights, it wasn’t too high to make it across-it felt sturdy! We came on a weekday and ran into only a handful of people the 2.5 hrs we walked - it was nice to feel relaxed and part of nature, and not that I need to hurry out of people’s way or get interrupted hearing others’ conversing from afar.”

“Another hidden gem of Hillsborough! It’s a bit out of the way but that means you are more likely to have the trails to yourself. The parking spots are also limited to about 6-8 vehicles. But the trail is excellent; nice and wide with some very gentle rolling elevation and a long stretch that follows the Seven Mile Creek. Highly recommended.”

“Nice little park! The playground is really close to the parking lot, so plan on watching younger kids who may wander. The musical fixtures were missing some pieces but they were still fun to play with sticks. The pollinator garden was beautiful and I loved the insect hotel. Very well thought out, although it looked slightly vandalized (bamboo pieces pulled out and falling apart). Still really neat. We only walked a bit of the trail but everything was relatively clean. We went on a Saturday and it was lively! Kids playing soccer, a baby shower, and lots of people walking dogs. Will definitely visit again.”

“Great “get-away” spot on the Eno River for kayaking or canoeing. If your timing is right, you might see Amtrack or a freight train pass overhead. About a 100 yd. walk from the parking lot to the kayak launch. Two river options upstream.”

“Durham is a place for trails and hikes. Happened to visit the Cabelands Trail. Is a virgin trail where you are not likely to meet anyone else. You walk along the river most of the time amidst the nature. Recommended for one of those mornings!”

“Beautiful hike. You may want to download AllTrails or something similar to help you navigate. We saw some people wandering off-trail to find the next section (though the red circles are rather easy to follow). Well-maintained trail with a couple well-marked detours as they complete their work. We hiked counter-clockwise in order to ease the steep climbs for my 3yo & 6yo. The river looked very brown & stagnant, not sure if you’d want to swim/wade in it?? Perhaps it was simply in need of rain. Lovely views at the lookout. In all, we hiked about 2.25miles. We’d definitely come back! Parking lot is dirt off a dirt road. There is a bathroom but it’s a composting toilet and I’m not sure how often it is cleaned. Bring your own hand sanitizer.”

“BONAP is the best and most detailed source for native plant distribution maps that you can find anywhere. It's a resource I use regularly when making plant selections for our property, and I'm so appreciative of the decades of research and dedication that have gone into creating this impressive database.”

“This is my favorite trail to use in the area! It has a lot of routes to explore, both on the main trail and on smaller side trails. It is well-used, and while it can get rocky, it is not so rocky as to be too dangerous! A great place for a stroll with a friend, a run, walking a dog, a family outing, or riding a bike.”

“Small garden but very nicely done. Some shady areas, but also very hot in the sunny areas so plan your day accordingly. Small parking spaces, but we found one in the shade so that was nice. Indoor building had AC, gift shop sold seeds for some of the plants and they had a large selection of nice gifts for the gardener in your family. Beautiful place. So many butterflies and loved the history of the cabin!!”

“I found the Middle School Class taught at Paws4Ever by Susan Spinks to be excellent. The behaviors and skills you want to help create a really nice relationship with your dog are broken down into basic steps that are easy to learn and build on progressively. There's lots of positive feedback for both pets and owners during classes and plenty of individualized attention to help you work with your dog in a way that matches the dog's needs. And you get an email every week reminding you of how to work on each skill taught that week. My dog, who is afraid of many new things, loved being in this class. And, because he needs to continue to be challenged by having new experiences in a safe and positive environment, we're going to be taking this class for a second time!”

“There are some great views along this trail; especially near the river. You'll see several large fallen logs, and get to cross a suspension bridge. The terrain is somewhat rough, and there is a decent incline. Get there early on the weekends. The parking lots fill up fast.”
