Snapper Prairie State Natural Area

Address: W7480 Prairie Ln, Lake Mills, WI 53551, USA

Park

“Small, postage-stamp remnant of the former Crawfish Prairie. Access is via a dirt road sandwiched by cropland, and it may seem like you shouldnt be driving here, but fret not. Ample room to park at the SW corner of the prairie. No maintained trails exist here, but you are likely to find at least a hint of a footpath. Once you make your way in, a surprisingly diverse prairie awaits, with many uncommon to rare species tucked away in widely scattered locations. The best area is the eastern 2/3 of the southern 2/3, if that makes any sense. Best time to visit, probably mid-May through Sept.”

“Always an enjoyable retreat when wanting to connect with nature. Grass mowed paths, beautiful array of a variety of trees, and Rose Lake. It is one of my favorite places to connect with nature, inner peace and wisdom”

Beach

Address: 3250 Kettle Moraine Rd, Hartford, WI 53027, USA

Park

“Magnificent park, with a beautiful lake, and great for families, and kids throughout the year. Whereas the lake is full of boats during summers, expect a whole lot of snowmobiles and snowshoeing during the winters. The trails range from easy to moderate, and also have a dedicated bike route. The place even has a small dog beach, and a dedicated play area for kids. The restrooms are clean, and tidy. Ensure you get a state park ticket in advance as the park ticket booth is still not functional. Update - The ticket booth is now open, and one can buy tickets at the location. It also serves as a small concessions shop, selling bottled water, and ice-creams.”

“Located on the bank of the Wisconsin River, we stopped to look for eagles. There was one in a tree and one flew past us heading south. It was about 10° at about 7:15 a.m. The sunrise was beautiful. Watch out on the narrow, winding entrance road, it's 2-WAY!”

Lake Kegonsa State Park

Address: 2405 Door Creek Rd, Stoughton, WI 53589, USA

Park

“A great state park for beginner hikers, dog walkers (on-leash) and kids due to the two playgrounds and sandy beach with swimming opportunities. It certainly wouldn’t be in my list of top choices for hiking landscape and variety, elevation, or breathtaking views but it is still a nice park with plenty of flat Prairie and wooded trails. There is a pet swim area, boat launch, plenty of rudimentary camper slots, shelters, grills, and horseshoe pits. It would likely only take 2-3 hours to hike every trail and see each edge of this park.”

Havenwoods State Forest

Blue Mound State Park

Address: 4350 Mounds Park Rd, Blue Mounds, WI 53517, USA

Park

“We enjoyed a day trip to this park in May. Our kids (6 and 4) enjoyed climbing both towers—the views are well worth it. We took a short hike and enjoyed all the wild flowers as well as large boulders by the trail. The vault toilets are kept clean and maintained. There is a very nice playground and picnic area. We visited midweek and saw less than 10 people. It’s a quiet and peaceful gem of a park and is such an easy drive from Madison.”

Lizard Mound State Park

Address: 2121 Co Hwy A, West Bend, WI 53090, USA

“Newest Wisconsin state park is a little gem. Really liked walking in and among the mounds. I wish I had stopped at the gazebo first so I could review the shapes and then see them. Fun one, can't wait to see how the stat upgrades it.”

“This park is very quiet, not crowded and off the beaten path. There's some shade next to the playground and no traditional large play structure, just a slide, some climbing equipment, swings, seesaws and merry go round. Woodchip floor. Nice place to picnic.”

Baer Park

Address: 2620 Church St, Cross Plains, WI 53528, USA

“This is a great park. Lots to do, and it's in a central location if you plan a get-together and forget the buns! The activities are always well organized and the entire area clean and welcoming.”

Aldo Leopold Nature Center

Address: 330 Femrite Dr, Monona, WI 53716, USA

Park

“We had our wedding at Aldo Leopold Nature Center, and it was more than we ever could have imagined. We love nature and love supporting youth in the outdoors - the prairie and building were absolutely beautiful and the perfect setting for our outdoor wedding. We’re so honored to have been married here and so thankful to those who helped make it happen. We want to give special thanks to Ben & Duncan. We had no idea how to plan a wedding, nor any comprehension of how stressful it would end up being. No matter how chaotic and overwhelmed we felt, they were both there with us through every step of the process. Over hundreds of emails, phone calls and in-person visits, your patience and kindness eased every question and doubt we had throughout the planning and event. Without you both, our wedding day would never have been possible. Thank you for making our wedding day one of the most cherished days of our lives. Aldo Leopold will forever have a special place in our hearts.”

Duck Creek Campground

Address: W6560 Co Rd G, Pardeeville, WI 53954, USA

Campground Park Lodging Restaurant

“I have come here once as a child and it was super fun! I rented a cabin for my friend and I’s birthday celebration. Defiantly more of a family place but that didn’t stop us from having fun. All the people are super friendly, shop is cute and super cool activates! Only reason I docked a star is because we wanted to use the pond to swim and they had all of their stuff removed… would have liked to enjoy that, it was one of the main reasons we chose this place. It was a solid 80 degrees but other than that we loved renting the cabin it was perfect for the 4 adults!”

Dawley Conservancy

Address: 2656 S Seminole Hwy, Fitchburg, WI 53711, USA

Park

“Nice trail for all ages👍🏽”

Airport Park

Address: Janesville, WI 53546, USA

“I was there watching the planes land and taking off wondering where they were going and wishing I could sneak aboard and leave here and to never return to my personal hell”

Cave of the Mounds

Address: 2975 Cave of the Mounds Rd, Blue Mounds, WI 53517, USA

Park

“It was a beautiful setting. A few different hiking trails with beautiful scenery as well. They make it fun with little scavenger hunts you can do and all of it is self-paced. You may have to get creative in entertaining yourself if you're trying to stay there for more than an hour to hour and a half as there is not much to do other than the cave and the gift shop. Still worth the trip because the cave was beautiful! I love that they had workers stationed throughout the cave and giving the guests little tidbits of information. Especially the freedom to walk past if you were not interested or to stay and get more insight.”

Sycamore Park Dog Park

Address: 4517 Sycamore Ave, Madison, WI 53704, USA

Park

“My dog's favorite romping ground. Milli goes typically twice a day and during the weekdays it's often the same friendly dogs. It gets a mixed group of unsocialized and disagreeable dogs on the weekends so be aware. Otherwise, it's a large park with two entrances and a good 20 minute loop.”
