“This is the sort of bike path you find in The Netherlands and Belgium. Great pavement, signage, places to sit, air pumps every 10 or so miles apart. About 50 miles long, there are restaurants around the midpoint, and a visitors center at Charles City Courthouse where you can refill water bottles Cul's Courthouse Grille has water outside too. I can't say enough good things about it and suggest you donate to support them!”

“This beach is incredible. We were able to walk out into the water so far and still could touch. I felt like I was in a movie. It was so fun and the water was warm. I'm talking warm enough that I could just easily walk in the water with comfort. It was like warm bath water and the people there were really nice as well.”

“Our whole family stayed at Anvil in the cabins and a cottage last week for a family trip to Busch Gardens. We were a little shocked just how small this campground was and surprised by the train. However, there are so many reasons why those 2 things do not matter and I would book again. My kids were absolutely OBSESSED with the game room.. and so was I. The staff was a pleasure to communicate with as I enjoyed every interaction with them. Their pet policy and accommodations were perfect and made my first trip with a dog a breeze. It was well maintained and we were very comfortable during our stay in the cottage. Some members of our family were woken up by the train at times, but no one was kept up from it. I personally grew up next to a train so I slept better then I do at home without a train. Our family made beautiful memories. Thanks guys for such a personal and welcoming stay!”

“Beautiful little trail around a wetland area. Mostly gravel trails with some little bridges—flat. Saw a bunch of Great Egrets (video). I went for a run in the morning in the middle of July and the only downside were some insects.”

“I found this little gem while researching kid friendly places for our upcoming vacation. It was the perfect playground for my 6 and 8 year olds. The park was clean with ample shade and even had a dog park that was split for big and small dogs. The best part was it was FREE!”

“Very small park. Short trail along the water with several fishing platforms. Platforms were all in good shape. There is a paved trail down to the first one so accessible for many people. Trail does have an incline. Good spot for fishing. There are a couple picnic tables at the parking lot and a port-a-potty.”

“Freedom Park is a wild find for any Mountain biker. The loop C has an obstacle ever 100 yards, seems that way. The trail has table tops, half table tops, small to large jumps, skinny rails, dirt jumps, gap jumps, and a few others. Most MTB trails similar to this are paid. The trail apps rate this as blue/intimidate. I would say, the big jump is a black diamond rated jump. That's my opinion. One last part, the trails flow with quick ups/downs and tight turns. The trail is super smooth and in great shape. They have great restrooms and a bike wash too. I could ride the Loop C and Loop A all day.”

“A little but beautiful Botanical Garden with lots of places to simply enjoy. No fee, donations accepted. Park at Freedom Park visitor center and walk the short path to the charming entrance. Restrooms are at the visitor center. The same park hosts Go Ape Park with ziplines, historic spots and trails. Picnic tables and benches within and just outside of the garden.”

“Great park with lots of hiking trails! I went very early in the morning and there was not a lot of people there, which we enjoyed! I did see kayak and canoes for rent if that’s something you’re interested in during the appropriate season! Also, we went through some cool trails down at the beach! My dogs and niece loved it!”

“We stayed in a rental unit on the property. Our kids slept on a blowup mattress because it was a one bedroom unit without a pull out couch. We enjoyed the extra sitting room and full sized refrigerator during our Thanksgiving dinner. If we wanted to cool it would have been possible thanks to the counter space but we elected to order from Cracker Barrel instead. The kids were able to ride their bikes around the campground without any problems from excessive traffic. There is an arcade on the property that takes quarters which the kids thought was old school. The rundown mini golf course needs repairs but it was good enough for the kids to enjoy. The campground employees were courteous and helpful throughout our 4 day stay. The location of the campground is close to all the shopping and historical sites the area has to offer. We would definitely go back!”

“We rented bikes and toured around Jamestown and rode up the Virginia Capital Trail to Chickahominy State Park. The young man working at the marina Tuesday morning was so nice and helpful even though he was the only employee there that day and had a summer camp coming in to rent kayaks. Definitely recommend this place, very convenient and good service and good bikes in great working order.”
