“We were a group of women backpacking overnight at Symphony Lake, mostly women over 50. The hike is easy with doable elevation gain, even for those not in shape. The last mile before Symphony Lake is a boulder field. There is somewhat of a trail but climbing over the boulders can be hard on knees and to keep your balance. Bring two walking poles. Keep your eye out for a trail. Also, to avoid the mud, keep watch for trails to your left hiking in. There is one that actually goes up the hillside for a bit. Wear good shoes and expect to get muddy.”

“I got to go kayaking along the Knik River, having little previous experience with a kayak. I felt completely safe and comfortable riding with the group that was put together. Derek knew the equipment and area well. Something to know about the trip is you will get wet. Which is great, but you will need the right gear depending on the season. We ran into strong winds and a rain jacket was great protection from the elements. It was an incredible area and you get to see different sides of Alaska that you normally wouldn’t get a chance to see. It was an amazing adventure I would highly recommend!”

Second, the drive down is beautiful so that 1 hour ride took over 2 hours. Great outdoor facility with animal enclosures. Took a funny photo of a black bear in a dead tree. Gift shop available. “We stayed 3 nights and it was perfectly located for our side trips to Kenai Peninsula, Seward and Whittier. We were in a group of 3 women and our room accommodated us perfectly. Booking and check-in was super easy and the hotel owner is beyond amazing. Today, I asked if I could freeze my ice packs anywhere so I could keep my meds cool for tomorrow's drive. He EXCHANGED the fridge in our room to bring one with a freezer compartment. He had to carry these fridges up and down the stairs!!! What an unexpected kindness and customer service. We were blown away. It is my first time in Alaska and the people are just awesome. Friendly, kind, helpful. If I get to come back, this hotel will definitely be on my itinerary. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your exceptional support. We had a small kitchenette in the room which was awesome to fix some healthy meals on our 5 week road trip. Outside was a big table where we could eat comfortably while watching the sun set. With two windows in the room we were able to keep a nice breeze over night, never needing an AC. The room was clean and everything worked well. I would highly recommend the Alpine Inn in Cooper Landing!”
