“For a Saturday night, this place was surprisingly quiet. It felt like a hidden gem in the heart of Frisco—beautifully decorated, welcoming, and intimate. Our server was kind and attentive, and he made several solid recommendations, including from the dessert menu after dinner. To start, we had the bacon and eggs (deviled eggs) and the lobster jar. Both were delectable! I don’t think any restaurants serve deviled eggs with the balance of sweet and savory that I prefer and make, but the million dollar bacon helps to make up for the lack of sweet in the egg filling. The lobster was perfectly cooked—velvety and buttery, with a hint spice—and it was paired with the perfect bread. For dinner, we had the carbonara pasta and the salmon, both of which were pretty good. My only issue with the salmon was that the menu description mentioned it was cooked in a butter sauce and served over risotto—I subbed the avocado risotto for veggie risotto per our server’s suggestion—but the salmon was so HEAVILY drizzled with some kind of balsamic sauce, that it overpowered an otherwise solid dish. Next time I would order the same thing and ask that they hold the sauce. If they are committed to keeping this sauce, they should avoid the zebra-like design and do a very LIGHT drizzle, and it would be great! Finally, we got a slice of red velvet and a slice of caramel coconut pecan cake to go. I’m not big on sweets but both cakes had the most amazing flavors—superb, really! Overall, it was a nice and unexpected experience, and I appreciate their willingness to accommodate most any substitution. We will definitely come back, though I do agree with some others that the pricing does not match the experience.”

“On my day off, I pointed my Tahoe south, and just drove. I eventually wound up in Troy, NC at lunch time. A Yelp search found Martha’s Grill in nearby Star, NC It has a 4 star rating, but the data set is REALLY small with only 5 previous reviews. Looked kind of divey, though, so I headed that way. Definitely a divey place that is well stocked with locals. VERY reminiscent of Tucker’s Grill in Horneytown. I ordered the giant cheeseburger, a hot dog all the way, and fries. The cheeseburger was a 3.5 star effort, with a nice char on the outside and a good flavor. That it was cooked slightly too long is my only gripe. The hot dog was excellent: 4+ stars. As I mentioned in my review of The Dugout, the wiener makes a huge difference in the hot dog experience, and the one Marth’s uses has a really good flavor. I was shocked to learn that it was just a food service hot dog—but it was really a good tasting dog. The chili was good but a little mild, and the slaw was tasty and not too dry and not too wet. The things that push this to 4 stars are the quality of the hot dog and its price: $1.55 for a very good hot dog is very hard to beat. Furthermore, the staff is very friendly. One concern I had was the 90.0 sanitation grade. It is three days later and I’m still alive, but this needs to be fixed. The area is beautiful—at the foot of the ancient Uwharrie Mountains. You can definitely enjoy a lovely drive in the country in this area, have a good lunch, and rub elbows with some locals.”

I had the soup - delicious! - followed by the Mahi-mahi as my entree. My husband had the Butcher Cuts pizza with extra sausage. The handmade sausage - one of Nantas’ skills- is better than Schreiner’s. Nantas the owner has a great palate and curates the wine list. I asked him for a red that would work well with both of our entrees and he did not disappoint! A delicious, well balanced Barbera. If you have a sweet tooth, leave room for dessert! The cookies in the case are enticing to have with am coffee or eat them here. Many other decadent choices, too. They have a nice music soundtrack playing and beautiful, relaxing scenery on the tv. Their pizza and wine can taken home, if you prefer 😊”

“Truly an amazing and satisfying experience of the freshest ingredients-farm to table. I’m so grateful to have found this cafe as meets all my dietary restrictions; I’m a gluten free vegetarian. I ordered the veggie wrap on gluten free bread (the veggie patty is without a doubt the best I’ve had in a very long time) and my sister got the Thai wrap as a bowl with scrambled tofu (I’m not a huge tofu scramble person, but I tried hers and it was so flavorful and delicious). The service was equally amazing; the staff was kind and friendly; I felt truly welcomed and appreciated their patience when I asked about the ingredients - the chef and his/her team also deserve a shout out, they know how to deliver dishes that are flavorful, fresh and healthy!!! Without all of these people plus the owners, I would be at a loss when it comes to finding what is now my favorite cafe when I come out to Santa Clarita🙏😊.h Follow up: highly recommend the pumpkin soup 🥣 and rose hibiscus lemonade.
