Greg Crittenden Memorial Park

Address: 21401 Windmill Dr, Ashburn, VA 20147, USA

Park

“Coming from a mother with multiple children, this is a great ballpark. I have two boys who play baseball and a younger daughter that needs to be occupied during games. Unfortunately, that sometimes distracts my attention from the action on the field. With a playground located conveniently between the two fields, younger siblings can safely enjoy the grounds while you enjoy the game.”

Wachapreague Seaside Park

Address: 2 High St, Wachapreague, VA 23480, USA

Park

“Pretty cool sleepy seaside community. I loved the peaceful feeling. The benches say it all. This is a special place to those that are fortunate enough to know it as home.”

Bells Mill Park

Address: Shea Dr, Chesapeake, VA 23322, USA

Park

“This is a city park open to the public from sunrise to sunset. The whole family can enjoy a romp around the fields here, including pets. It's a very simple park and a great way to connect to nature. There were plenty of birds and squirrels, and i saw a baby rabbit. I unexpectedly stopped here to check it out on a heavy overcast day with a little drizzle. There's little to no canopy or shade here, so bring sun protection. Currently, there are mowed down grass trails thru heavily grassy open fields with wild flowers. Bring the bug repellent. It's adjacent to marsh land. Tho I only had one pesky horse fly, no mosquitoes. There's a medium-sized parking lot with a port a potty and fitness workout area. There's picnic tables with at least one with a canopy. It will be a challenge to take a wheelchair or stroller thru the uneven fields. It's hard to get good views of the waterway because of the surrounding brush. I also saw poison ivy, so keep the little ones near.”

Spaced out well and provide great privacy. The restrooms were very clean and they provided free washer and dryer. Each site had a nice picnic table and a fire ring. Definitely planning on returning to this great campground in the future.”

Machicomoco State Park Campground

Address: 3601 Timberneck Farm Rd, Hayes, VA 23072, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“This is a quiet little state park I just realized existed. I came here for a special geocaching challenge that the Rangers set up. Not a lot of people here, so it was very peaceful and quiet – as relaxing as I was hoping it would be. There's also a small campground, and quite a few people in there today. I could not find a trail map, and the one on my phone wouldn't load a great deal of the time, but I quickly found out the trails are very easy to navigate. I took a side trail out of curiosity, and ended up standing in the parking lot where my car was. For the most part, it is accessible to all. There is what appears to be a hiking, or just walking, trail along the road, the whole way. I didn't see many people hiking, but the cyclists use the road.”

Fort Boykin

Address: 7410 Fort Boykin Trail, Smithfield, VA 23430, USA

Park

“The trees are enormous here and so breathtaking. Old and majestic. It feels magical. There is a beach here as well. A nice walk in nature. A great place for a picnic. There is a shelter with picnic tables and there is a bathroom on site.”

Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve

Address: Cape Charles, VA 23310, USA

Park

“This place is great!! It's so pretty. Both the beach and the woodland trails are lovely. I preferred the woods and so did my dog. Only 8 parking spaces so get there early. Can't imagine how inconvenient it would be to get towed out there and have to find a ride to your car.”

CHARLES BROWN PARK

Address: 1950 Old Williamsburg Rd, Yorktown, VA 23690, USA

Park

“Great park. Clean, good parking, safe from traffic, a new community garden (I don't know how that works), baseball diamond, restrooms.”

Isle of Wight Family Campground

Address: 7651 Whispering Pines Trail, Windsor, VA 23487, USA

Campground Park Lodging

“Wife and I travel full time in F450 and 42ft RV 5th wheel. Visited Mid June 2023. This park is REALLY nice and big. VERY spacious sites. Grounds were kept clean and debris free especially close to the wooded area. These are gravel lots but packed down well. Water pressure was adequate. We got 40 PSI at max throttle. Facilities were very clean, dog pens were VERY clean and large for our 2 bostons to rum. Swimming pool was very clean and monitored daily. Has a small kiddie playground Campground speed is 5 MPH. The management takes speeding over 5 MPH very seriously. Don't speed in the campground. Zero campground WiFi. AT&T and Verizon was 4-5 bars for my modems. Quite a few tenants had starlink, not sure of that connectivity speeds. There was a fishing pond and primitive camping areas along it. We were there for 8 days and experienced no bugs. We highly recommend this place, especially for those that want to stay long term. I would recommend that you have your own internet services which for us was a biggie since I work remote full time.”

Breezyhill Pool

Address: 43250 Hay Rd, Ashburn, VA 20147, USA

Park

“Perfect for families with little ones. Might get a bit boring for older kids (12+) though. There is a park right outside the entrance to the pool that also caters to younger kids (ages2-10). The pool has several mushroom waterfalls (some big, some small), a beach-style entry with spraying fountains, a waterslide (might be the one thing the older kids enjoy), lazy river, and plenty of lounge chairs & tables w/umbrellas for eating snacks & relaxing. The best thing about this pool is that the ENTIRE pool (minus the slide area, but including the lazy river) is only 3.5 ft at its highest point!”

Jamestown Beach Event Park

Address: 2205 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185, USA

Park Meal takeaway Restaurant

“This beach is incredible. We were able to walk out into the water so far and still could touch. I felt like I was in a movie. It was so fun and the water was warm. I'm talking warm enough that I could just easily walk in the water with comfort. It was like warm bath water and the people there were really nice as well.”

Blackwater Ecological Preserve

Address: Thomas Woods Trail, Zuni, VA 23898, USA

Park

“That's a wonderful place to stay and take the dogs for a swim and even said if you enjoy fishing.”

Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center

Address: 9275 Barnes Rd, Toano, VA 23168, USA

Campground Lodging Park Health

“This place is great! We went to family camp and had a great time. Camp had a relaxed pace with many recreation options. We got to try some things we don't normally get to do (high ropes, leap of faith) and also canoeing, kayaking, swimming, etc. The food was great but the best part was the staff members' friendliness and warmth. We stayed in Oakwood which has connecting rooms for larger families. Hope we can return.”

Brickyard Landing

Address: 990 Brickyard Rd, Toano, VA 23168, USA

Park

“One paved (but pitted and bumpy) ramp; however, the boat dock is in good condition. There is a separate fishing dock and a porta-potty. The is a gravel and a grass parking lot which can hold 20 cars with trailers. The ramp is shallow at low tide. Solo loading and unloading a boat can be a challenge at times due to tidal currents and waves from boat traffic. This seems to be a go-to spot for local boaters and bank fisherman.”

Anvil Campground

Address: 5243 Mooretown Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188, USA

Campground Lodging Park

“Our whole family stayed at Anvil in the cabins and a cottage last week for a family trip to Busch Gardens. We were a little shocked just how small this campground was and surprised by the train. However, there are so many reasons why those 2 things do not matter and I would book again. My kids were absolutely OBSESSED with the game room.. and so was I. The staff was a pleasure to communicate with as I enjoyed every interaction with them. Their pet policy and accommodations were perfect and made my first trip with a dog a breeze. It was well maintained and we were very comfortable during our stay in the cottage. Some members of our family were woken up by the train at times, but no one was kept up from it. I personally grew up next to a train so I slept better then I do at home without a train. Our family made beautiful memories. Thanks guys for such a personal and welcoming stay!”

Greensprings Interpretive Trail

Address: 3751 John Tyler Hwy, Williamsburg, VA 23185, USA

“Beautiful little trail around a wetland area. Mostly gravel trails with some little bridges—flat. Saw a bunch of Great Egrets (video). I went for a run in the morning in the middle of July and the only downside were some insects.”

Grayland Avenue Tot Lot

Address: 3015 Grayland Ave, Richmond, VA 23221, USA

Park

“They just redid this cute little playground and it's great! Below all the structures is a soft layer of turf grass, and there are baby swings, standard swings, a smaller climbing place for younger children, and an obstacle course type structure for older children. It's really nice and popular with local families. Really love what they did with it. My 3 year old and 5 year old both had a blast here. There were families with younger children while we were here as well as some older kids, so it's a space that caters to a variety of ages.”

New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve

Address: New Point Comfort Natural Area Preserve, Port Haywood, VA 23138, USA
