“Such a lovely hike. Not too far or difficult, so even those who aren't super fit can make it. The last part, near the oasis, does require some rock scrambling, which may limit those who are less mobile. Lots of birds, butterflies, and wildflowers in the spring time.”

“San jaun bautista is a wonderful Historic little Town I visited 10 days ago mainly because of "Alfred Hitchcocks" film Vertigo, I stumbled upon a Spanish/ American Festival with Street foods and many other goods, there was a band playing such a wonderful atmosphere, the people were so happy and welcoming. I spoke with Linda in her little Store "Vintage Curosity" she was very interesting to talk to and informed me where in town I could sleep in my car as I was touring the States on the cheap. Next morning after a piecefull night I went for breakfast at the little dinner with red & white chequered floor the lady was great, wonderful Coffee & tasty toast and marmalade, next I visited "Windmill Market" this was the best little Supermarket I stopped at whilst in the States for 3 weeks highly recommend. I was sad to leave many folk said come back and see us again, fantastic slice of old traditional America i loved it. 👌❤️”

Round Valley Trailhead

Address: Round Valley Trail, California, USA

Park

“It's hard to imagine thick forests and streams up there when everything at the bottom of the mountains is desert, but it's true. Rode the tram (a wonderful experience in it's own right) to the trailhead, then took the north part of Round Vally Loop to Wellman Divide Trail, headed for Mt San Jacinto. The trail is fairly easy to follow, although large sections of it are rocky. The outbound ascent is fairly steady, nothing terrible. Do remember that you start at 8,400.' If you're not acclimated, this one will be tougher than normal. There are also a number of places where last winters huge snow pack, and subsequent melting, caused wash-outs and scouring. I came to a few spots where the trail seemed to disappear because it simply went over rocky sections. Within 15-20 yards of each of those places, the trail became obvious again. I crossed several stream beds, some of which were still flowing the last week in September, 2023. I did not need my poles for this trail, but was glad I wore boots. I encountered about 20 people (all of whom were pleasant) on this trail, making for a pretty quiet, peaceful experience. I will be back to explore more trails. *****Things to be aware of. It begins getting dark well before normal sunset because you are in a valley. Having a headlamp and/or flashlight is a good idea. A headlamp is best because it leaves your hands free; a good idea on this trail with all the rocky sections. It is much cooler up there than on the valley floor. It was in the 80s on the floor, but 60° at the top of the tram ride. It got even cooler as the day wore on and darkness approached. Finally, you are required to have a free day permit, which you can pick up at the ranger station at the beginning of the trail.”

Definitely a park I'd recommend everytime”

Valencia Heritage Park

Address: 24155 Newhall Ranch Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91355, USA

Park

“Dreary, rainy winter of '23 and the photos/videos reflect it. Ok, this one. I can't say why with specificity but I'm simply unimpressed. I think, maybe, I'm becoming jaded by the volume of Parks in the SCV. There's nothing glaringly wrong with Heritage. Here's the good. Easy access to the San Francisquito Trail Paseo. It also has three well maintained tennis courts. Bathrooms are clean. There are two large fields for running around. Pavilion and numerous benches throughout the park. Charcoal grills. So, it's not a bad park. It is however right along Newhall Ranch Road, one of the busiest roads in Santa Clarita. Onr entrance and parking lot is off Newhall. Another is at the intersection of Fairview and McBean Pkwy, another very busy road. You can see some scenery but it's not the most picturesque park in the inventory. I gave it 4 stars mostly for the paseo access and tennis courts. It's really a 3+ star park so I rounded up.”
