Angie the manager was fantastic, she hads made the campground a family affair which we rarely see on our travels around the Country. “Have lived in the area for ages but this was my first visit inside Cranbrook House. We did a self guided tour but there were docents in every room to answer questions and give a little history on the family and the decor. The details in the wood carvings, the high end materials used in construction, and the influence of the artisans that were commissioned to create the decor pieces left us in awe. The gardens are amazing. The Japanese garden was magical. Take the time to discover all the grounds but wear comfortable shoes as you will definitely get your steps in as you wander the trails. Absolutely will be going back soon!”

“Beautiful little wildlife management park area! There are a couple small walk paths along the Rum River that follow along the shoreline through a nestle of trees and end up going through a gorgeous natural wildflower are that is just breathtaking at any time of the year. They have a really nice Pavillion area for grilling equipped with picnic tables, trash cans, and even an old fashioned well pump that actually works! There is also nice little playground area for the kiddos to play at. There is a small, gravel public boat launch area, and a gravel lot that will hold about 12 vehicles. They also have a Biffy or two.”

“Had alot of fun here with my kids and a friend and her kid. Did some sled riding, snow man building, and snow fort building. The hills are gentle enough or rough enough for any level of snow seeding fun. During spring, summer, and fall months I believe the lower end where the ball field is, gets a bit marshy. My wife and kids though do like going here all year long.”

Since they have been playing here, the park environment has improved with the help of their partners and volunteers, who clean prior to the games.”

“It is a great place to play disc golf among the trees. Almost every hole has some shade, so it isn't too hot in the summer. The water is near if you need a quick dip to cook off. There are benches along the way to rest up.”

“I had no idea this hike existed in San Diego County but was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful nature and the view from atop the mountain is very satisfying. You'll see some neat landmarks along the way. I'd rate the difficulty of the hike moderate in Spring time. There were some areas where the bush narrows and could scratch up your arms if you're not careful. I don't remember seeing any bathrooms or porta pottys even at the trail head so just be aware of that. I think this hike also requires an adventure pass which are sold in a shop near the trail head.”

“This is a lovely park for camping and the caboose camper cabins they offer are a fun option. My mistake was to come for hiking - the customer service person told me the trails aren’t marked on the map they give out and he didn’t seem to know for sure if there are any or where I could find them. He did tell me to watch out for hunters with bows. The park is fairly small, we didn’t find any actual trails, I would say it is best for family camping since they do offer many different options for that (cabooses, regular cabins, multiple spaces for RVs and tents). There is a small lake with a beach that’s great for swimming, and you can also swim in the river (although the lake is safer). The cabooses should be reserved online first since they are pretty booked up through the summer. Minimum stay is two nights, so they can’t be booked just for an overnight stay. Overall the park is clean, seems safe, and the nature is pretty. We saw lots of different kinds of birds, including a goose nesting right by the camping area.”
